Donquizote Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Only the best vocalists Cynthia and Ariana should perform at Oscar. That's why they're eliminating the cast of EP and their original songs
Alyssa Edwards Posted January 23 Posted January 23 I'm thinking Margaret Qualley and Rosselini are getting in, Jean Baptiste could still have a chance, Jolie's performance was no Kristen Stewart in Spencer if she misses it's for good reasons, i'm hoping Sing Sing does not get in for Best Picture, A Complete Unknown might overperform.
Alyssa Edwards Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Also hoping for an Anora underperformance. This movie somehow encapsulates how weak this year is. Spoiler But i'll say, I've yet to see The Brutalist though. As well as The Seed of the Sacred Fig and All We Imagine As Light (they might get gooses egged though) but i'm thinking that at least one of those two films is going to gag me. 1
KylieistBoi Posted January 23 Posted January 23 My NGNG pick is The Substance overperforms and gets around 7-8 nominations. 2
Almodusa Posted January 23 Author Posted January 23 Do y'all think Challengers will actually get into Score? I'm 80%
Donquizote Posted January 23 Posted January 23 I heard voters from LA are low this year due to wildfire. I won't be surprised if international voters come through and Kapadia/Mohamad gets in.
Donquizote Posted January 23 Posted January 23 I hate category fraud. Hope the voters do something and put both Karla and Zoe in supporting and Culkin gets in lead. Imagine the chaos lol.
genio Posted January 23 Posted January 23 In case anyone wants to watch the nominations live in 8 hours on YouTube: 1 2

I am really curious to find out if the fires had an impact on the nominations. LA-based voters probably didn't have a chance to watch last minute contenders, surprising Globe winners, could miss out on getting nominated 2
genio Posted January 23 Posted January 23 (edited) I think 11 to 12 nominations are almost on lock for Emilia Perez, I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes the most nominated film in history of the Academy Awards with 14+ nominations (it has the advantage of most likely getting a double nod in BOS - maybe even in BSA). 10 nods for Conclave and The Brutalist should also be likely. 8 nominations for Wicked are not out of reach. Unfortunately, no expert sees Jon M. Chu getting into the Best Director category, even though he would deserve it (I predict he is around 10th or 11th place). Emilia Perez, Conclave, The Brutalist and Wicked could be leading the nominations today. Spoiler Not counting out A Complete Unknown, Dune: Part Two and The Substance to become one of the most nominated films of the evening. I see A Complete Unknown getting 7 nominations and Dune 2 & The Substance probably 6. However, those could surprise and lead the nominations alongside the others as well. Anything is possible. Mangold (A Complete Unknown) is on the edge of getting into Best Director at sixth place in some predictions. Edited January 23 by genio
D/X Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Sneaking in my predictions last minute to check out in a few hours lmao. Just praying that The Snubstance doesn't happen, but I'll keep myself pessimistic. kimberly Posted January 23 Posted January 23 prayer circle for: - Coralie Fargeat in Best Director - Marianne Jean-Baptiste in Best Actress - Monica Barbaro in Best Supporting Actress - Challengers in Score 1

It makes little sense for me to predict The Apprentice getting into Supp. Actor and Makeup and not Lead also. And I think the banner year narrative could be what gets him in over Craig, even though I still feel weird not predicting Craig. - The last spot in Director is a total clusterf*ck and I'm predicting Ross as a NGNG. Conclave still feels a little too middlebrow to get in, but perhaps Berger gets in anyway ala Tom McCarthy. And Joyce Eng mentioned how she's been toying with the idea of Mangold getting in off of the American bloc pulling their weight behind him so he can finally get his flowers... which I could really see happening. ACU being a "basic musician biopic" simply wouldn't matter in that case. - I could see Substance sneaking into another tech (Editing, Production Design, Costumes). - I wouldn't be shocked at all if Dune missed multiple techs it won last time because the passion isn't really there. The Two Towers missed quite a few techs as the middle part of the LOTR trilogy. - I wouldn't be shocked if we were all just overthinking Supporting Actress and it ends up being Saldana and Gomez as the Top 2, Rossellini career nom, Gomez coattail, and Jones because she's something the Oscars would do. JLC and Barbaro end up being red herrings, Qualley is too cool for the industry, and Deadwyler is just too dead. Watch it end up being absolutely insane now that I've said all of this though. - Writers tend to do their homework and watch stuff the Academy as a whole won't as much, so I have Hard Truths and I'm Still Here in a surprise branch picks. - I wouldn't be shocked if Blitz snuck into a tech or two and have Zimmer getting namechecked in Score. And I have Joker as a NGNG alt in Cinematography. Idc if it bombed, it's far and away one of the biggest achievements in cinematography of the year. Absolutely gorgeous. I think there's a longshot chance that the branch, being so insular and wdgaf, nominate it as them doing their own thing. It's realistically not happening at all and I should probably predict like Girl With the Needle, but that's my truth.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the tweet doesn't give away any indication that there won't be ANY performances. If the Original Song nominees were not allowed to perform, but Wicked could perform non-nominated songs, this would cause immense backlash for both the Oscars and the film itself. It would tank Wicked: For Good's chances next year. However, there's a likelihood they will have performances à la 'In Memorium' sections.
Hector Posted January 23 Posted January 23 Noooo, Challengers missing Score. Supporting Actor not a shock at all. 1
