Lemme go put my predictions into that Awards app.

I'm still predicting Qualleygend even if she 99.99999% doesn't get in. IDGAF

I'm doing a prayer circle for Selena tonight.

Lemme join you. I just need Selena to get this and I can comfortably quit worrying about this awards season.

I think she has a chance given that Emilia Perez is very beloved by the industry, she's been campaigning HARD and had Meryl hosting screenings for her, she might get some sympathy votes (re: chronically ill survivor of abuse finally getting her flowers), and that Academy voters might put her over Felicity Jones on the basis of many voters not wanting to sit through a 215 minute film.

Jones has that classic coattail supporting actress vibe who will get in based on strong performance from lead actor and strong movie overall.

Ms Salina needs to overcome popstar bias that JLo suffered in order to get nominated.

Most pop stars who turn actresses who get nominated at Oscar like Gaga, Cher, Blinge, and JHud are well known vocalist and respected talent.

Let's have a moment of silence for Strange Darling's Willa Fitzgerald who will undeservingly be snubbed tomorrow.

'You're playing with one of our biggest wars': Why some Mexican people are upset about Oscar-tipped film Emilia Pérez

https://www.bbc.com/culture/article/20250121-why-some-mexicans-are-criticising-oscar-tipped-emilia-perez

I blame Greta Gerwing for making us think that this movie is a high arthouse movie lol :suburban:

Greta Gerwig >>> some random Mexicans (saying this a Mexican)

The way they lambasted Roma and Yalitza too. They're never happy with anything. Amargos Anónimos.

Letterboxd:

Roma (4.1)

EP (2.6)

Rotten Tomatoes audience score:

Roma (72%)

EP (34%)

I guess the GP and critics agree Roma is a good movie unlike EP :suburban:

I really think supporting actress is gonna be: zoe saldana, ari, isabella rosselini, jamie lee curtis and either monica barbaro, felicity jones, or danielle deadwyler. I really think that the academy is gonna gatekeep selena because there is already another pop star who is gonna be nominated for the first time in this category this year. but i'd love to be wrong cus i want selena to continue to be in awards movies.

It can't be just trolls who mass review them :suburban:

Whatever it is, all contenders this year are weak and meh.

Let's not start on Best Director frontrunners who are all basic and meh. I wish Kapadia and Mohammad made it to the lineup although it seems like a pipedream.

And let's not talk on how horrendous Best Supporting Actress category this year (sans Ariana and Michelle Austin).

Best Lead Actress seems solid but the fact that the best performance this year from Jean-Baptiste will get snubbed is a crime. And let's not talk on possibility that Cynthia, who gave one of the best performances last year, will get snubbed due to blockbuster bias.

I'm glad that we'll be done with this award season soon so we can move on to new award season :suburban:

ok I know these can be and typically are boring but they did give us one of my favorite moments last year when Davine Joy Randolph won. I was literally sobbing.

Only the best vocalists Cynthia and Ariana should perform at Oscar. That's why they're eliminating the cast of EP and their original songs :suburban:
