Maybe Miss Curtis could follow into her footsteps. I hope The Substance has a Darkest Hour moment where it wins Lead Actress + Make-up, and Qualley makes it like Seyfreid with only GG+CC combo (with Coralie also snatching a Best Director nom) 1

hausofdave Posted January 16 Posted January 16 While Nickel Boys could be a Beale Street it also still feels oddly possible as a highbrow pick whose path is solely BP/Director/Screenplay. We see it year after year. Or even less, just Pic & Screenplay (A Serious Man / Past Lives). Spoiler Ofc that could also be September 5's path…

kimberly Posted January 17 Posted January 17 2 hours ago, X~MoviePoP said: Seed of the sacred fig is wayyyy better than emilia perez they're not super comparable, but yes. 100%. Seed of the Sacred Fig is an extremely detailed look into the Iranian women's rights/lives movement, directed by an Iranian filmmaker living abroad in exile. it was heartbreaking. you could sense the yearning through and through. Emilia Pérez is so, so weak and lacks so much nuance in its storytelling in comparison. when I first watched it, I thought it was a solid film, but upon reflection and reading differing takes, especially Mexican voices, and hearing how director Audiard and Karla Sofia Gascon have been talking about the film, I cannot stand the idea of it winning any award. certainly nothing beyond Saldaña's performance.
Antisocialites Posted January 17 Posted January 17 The Room Next Door was good. not my favorite Almodóvar but gotta love this new sensibility that he's been approaching ever since Julieta. I'm so lost at people complaining about this particular film not being "authentic" and "naturalistic" when his filmography has always been characterized by being highly artificial and unnatural whether in the dialogue or in the approach of its themes. that's why his cinema is so fascinating, bizarre and revolutionary. 3
Green Posted January 17 Posted January 17 With those SAG & BAFTA nominations Jei Mi Li could be the 5th nominee for Best Supporting Actress. Who would have thought? Zoe, Ariana, Felicity, Isabella and the last spot will be Jamie Vs. Selena Vs. Margaret

Tm4074 Posted January 17 Posted January 17 (edited) Supporting Actress being the most interesting and chaotic category. I knew they weren't going to nominate more than two actresses under 40 so with Ariana locked it's Qualley vs. Gomez. vs Barbaro for that spot (or all of them miss). I'm rooting for Qualley but the BAFTA/SAG snub really hurt her chances. ACU is peaking at the right time so Barbaro can sneak in if they love ACU. Gomez will need to coattail her movie but she hasn't made a line-up of 5 and it seems the American guilds aren't as crazy about EP as the international awards bodies like GG and BAFTA were. I don't see how she gets enough #1 or #2 votes since Saldaña will definitely be the beneficiary of the EP lovefest in that category. Qualley I can see getting those passion votes but again BAFTA/SAG snubs show that may not be enough. Then we have Deadwyler who made SAG but is in a weak film and will be a lone nominee. 1. Saldaña (locked 2. Grande (locked) 3. Rossellini 4. JLC 5. Jones ---- 6. Gomez 7. Qualley Edited January 17 by Tm4074 1

We had three under 40 a whopping one year ago And also three years ago.
