DanyelP23 Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago 1 minute ago, GoodGuyGoneGhetto said: Respectfully, is Ariana Grande receiving 'Best Supporting' nominations due to the success of WICKED? Historically, musicals have always been awards bait (especially at the Oscars), but why do I get the feeling the actors in the film (bar Cynthia Erivo) are being nominated due to how big the film is and not necessarily because of the performances? I love Grande but her receiving these acting nominations are so confusing and hilarious to me. I'm not really understanding Pamela Anderson's nominations either. Angelina Jolie snubbed? Margaret Qualley snubbed? Marianne Jean-Baptiste snubbed? Hopefully the Academy Awards see some sense. Ariana, Qualley and Saldana have pretty much semi-evenly split the regional critics awards. Bailey is 100% getting in on the combo of Wicked's strength with SAG members (which are mostly part of the general public if you think about it) plus his incredibly successful career going from Bridgerton (which is nominated this year for Cast, which I think he was also part of), to Fellow Travelers to Wicked. Jolie being snubbed was a bit foretold by her inability of getting in on the BAFTA longlist over the likes of Marisa Abela for Back to Black. And Marianne unfortunately just hasn't really taken off outside of the BIG critics (she won the trifecta of LAFCA, NYFC, and NSFC) and probably BAFTA (because she's British in a British movie) Pamela lowkey has a similar narrative to Moore, except for the fact that her movie is nowhere to be seen outside of mentions of her, and apparently JLC. 2
hausofdave Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago And when The Last Showgirl turns out to be this year's NYAD? 3
DanyelP23 Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago This is kind of a stupid and obscure comparison... What if Jonathan Bailey pulls a Grace Kelly in 'The Country Girl' at the Oscars but instead of the win which is obviously LOCKED for Kieran Culkin, he gets a surprise nom. 1
Riot Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago I was dreading another Selena nomination though. Thank God they had some sense 1 1 2
Selegend Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago Kinda feel like Ariana will win Supporting Actress and Emilia Perez will win ensemble. Wicked showcased major force with Bailey being nominated from my POV, i think she's locked for the win.
Hector Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago And the mess will continue today with the Directors' Guild Award nominations out today too
hausofdave Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago Bailey over Pearce is so unserious and such a SAG thing. still think Pearce makes it in at BAFTA and the Oscars, but this is bad for Maclin and Washington. don't see either of them getting in at BAFTA. Borisov is def in and idk what to do with Strong yet until we see if he also gets in at bafta. 2
DanyelP23 Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago Qualley needs to get her ass out there and CAMPAIGN even harder than she is doing right now. Getting snubbed for essentially a co-lead performance to make space for Jamie Lee Curtis in a movie no1 curs about is inexcusable. But if The Substance is making it into Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay (and possibly Editing) there's no reason for her not to get in. 1
Green Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago I love the SAG nominations. Pamela Anderson nominated YESSSS Jonathan Bailey too 1
Riot Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago (edited) Demi Moore and Pamela Anderson having higher chances of getting Oscar noms than Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie and Kate Winslet would've sounded crazy 10 years ago Edited 22 hours ago by Riot 1 3
DanyelP23 Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago One thing I'll say regarding Kidman. The only pathway I see for her is making it in at BAFTA while Winslet misses + Dickinson making it in as a surprise nom there as well. The fact that SAG KNEW to not put Stan in and chose Craig over him gives me hope. But Stan can still get in at BAFTA unless they go for Hugh Grant (or maybe Ben-Adir or Patel), who has been nominated by BAFTA in the past both for Florence Foster Jenkins and Paddington 2 1
Green Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago I need Jei Mi Li to pull a campaign and help Pamela to get an Oscar nomination Nicole and Angelina don't need it

I thot she was doing other things as well. I need Jack Antonoff to threaten Taylor Swift to not work with her again OR leak her demos if she doesn't jump on instagram stories to praise Qualley, (The Substance & Moore) 2

Gomez, as expected, missed. is it too out of pocket to predict Wicked could pull off wins for Ensemble, Erivo AND Grande? Chalamet will take actor, I think. Culkin is untouchable in supporting. 2
hausofdave Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago This was the best outcome for Torres, since she was never getting in SAG. 1
hausofdave Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago (edited) Since 2000, the only other year where the Drama Actress winner missed and the Comedy/Musical Actress winner got in was 2016 (Huppert - another non english performance and Stone). Stone won SAG that year Edited 22 hours ago by hausofdave

Wait do you think Timmy has a chance for Actor? I have a feeling Brody will win everything this season 1
Elusive Chanteuse Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago Did people forget Dune came out last year? Is this the end of Angie's award season? I hope her French film is received well.
DanyelP23 Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago 15 of the 20 nominees at SAG have the last name in the first 7 letters of the alphabet. hausofdave Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago SAG track record: 2023 - 4/5 2022 - 3/5 2021 - 3/5 2020 - 4/5 2019 - 4/5 2018 - 4/5 2017 - 4/5 2016 - 3/5 2015 - 3/5 2014 - 4/5 2013 - 4/5 2012 - 3/5 2011 - 4/5 2010 - 4/5 The only question right now is whether it's a 3/5 or a 4/5 year…
hausofdave Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago If it's a 4/5 then it's obviously Anderson the traditional SAG that misses at the Oscars. In that case, traditionally it's a passion pick more "obscure" that replaces the SAG, meaning that one of Torres/MJB replaces Anderson. If it's a 3/5 though then someone from Erivo/KSG will also make company to Anderson as SAG snubees. And I don't think it's Emilia Perez contender considering the film strength everywhere else. Wicked otoh, underperformed at Globes and SAG clearly is the friendlier environment for it… And in that 3/5 scenario, I think Erivo could be replaced by Jolie at the Oscars.. 2 1
