Liafen Posted Monday at 09:44 AM Posted Monday at 09:44 AM Seems like the crowd was surprised about Anna Sawai explicitly mentioning how she would've voted for Kathy Bates lmao. Is it a faux pas to call out one other nominee this way? Legend Bates seemed grateful & surprised 1
DanyelP23 Posted Monday at 10:09 AM Posted Monday at 10:09 AM Moore and Torres winning is actually solidifying Amy Adams's chances to sneak in at the Oscars:
kimberly Posted Monday at 10:10 AM Posted Monday at 10:10 AM not the mess in this thread Demi Moore winning was a lovely surprise, and I'm so so happy about it. after that speech, I'm fully convinced she'll either win the Oscar or come 2nd. nomination is locked. Emilia Perez was good, but it was absolutely overrated here. hopefully other award bodies are less impressed because it really should not win Best Picture. 1

Liafen Posted Monday at 10:49 AM Posted Monday at 10:49 AM Whew just watched Demi. What a stellar, moving, endearing and eloquent acceptance speech. I don't really believe in speeches sealing the deal for Oscar wins (maybe except for Emma Thompson's Adapted Screenplay Globe win), but Demi easily shot up to #2, if not #1 for a lot of people in Hollywood. 3 2
theboyismine Posted Monday at 10:55 AM Posted Monday at 10:55 AM Demi Moore is not winning an Oscar for that joke of a movie lets be serious 22
hausofdave Posted Monday at 11:00 AM Posted Monday at 11:00 AM Torres' mom Montenegro got nominated at the Oscars with just a Globes nom. Unlike her daughter, Montenegro didn't win the Golden Globe. She was also starring in a Walter Salles film with the only other prospect being international film.

Fading Posted Monday at 11:05 AM Posted Monday at 11:05 AM It was such a delightful night. Its been years since I've felt an awards ceremony delivered such balanced and rightful results. Yes yes and yes to the Emilia Pérez, the Brutalist and Moore/Torres wins
kimberly Posted Monday at 11:12 AM Posted Monday at 11:12 AM I've been saying for weeks if not months to my friends that Demi Moore's big hurdle would be scoring the Oscar nomination, during the ranked-choice nomination round. It's always looked to me like if she were to get in, she'd have a solid shot at winning. This win/speech sealed the deal for her nomination, believe it or not. She's coming to upset the Anora-heads. Speaking of which, Anora going home empty handed is a kii. I liked the movie but it was a solid 7-7.5 for me. Never understood the awards hype around it. Looks like its Best Picture odds might deflate further — which would essentially mean a very tight race among the Top 5 contenders, with The Substance creeping up as well. 2 3

josesuxx Posted Monday at 11:20 AM Posted Monday at 11:20 AM The industry is playing a joke on us cause Emilia Perez is kinda the worst movie of the century Anyway, VERY happy for Demi Moore 2 2
Space Cowboy Posted Monday at 11:26 AM Posted Monday at 11:26 AM I love Angelina as much as anyone, but there's no passion behind Maria. It'd feel like this year's token, forgettable biopic nomination. The only reason she is in the conversation is simply because she's Angelina. I wouldn't mind if she missed the nod tbh. 1

Nah, this narrative is just not true at all. she's #5-#8 on goldderby to get an Oscar acting nom, she's longlisted at the BAFTAs, something that is very hard to do (10 actress only), got nominated at the GG, has RAVE reviews going on for her despite the online hate train going on since she's, of course, the most famous person attached to the movie. Yesterday brazilians wanted our movie to win non-english movie and with that there's hate for Selena everywhere on Twitter like she's the lead of the movie lmao and thats 100% not about her acting since the movie is not even out here. and selenators do talk a lot about Cannes but i think its cuz most of u guys think they won an esemble award when they didnt. They tied for Best actress award, something that hasn't happen in cannes since 2004, so its Not common, and with that the female cast of EP got it, but it was an award that couldve easily went just for Karla or just for Zoe if Selena didnt shine. They made that choice to award Selena, it wasn't an esemble category. She has way less screen time, they wanted to award her cuz she deserve so. Edited Monday at 11:32 AM by Selegend 2

kimberly Posted Monday at 11:58 AM Posted Monday at 11:58 AM Selena Gomez is clearly riding the coattails of the industry's love for Emilia Perez. She's nowhere near the conversation for the win, anywhere. Which is typical of her, especially in acting but was true for her music as well. The Emmys shut her out for Only Murders for several seasons before letting her get a nomination, despite nominating her co-stars. Her acting performances have been highly divisive so far, and I do not expect that to change anytime soon. She's not going to get the Oscar nomination, and she's unlikely to make it in for SAG. She's already missed Critics' Choice. BAFTA might be her only potential pre-cursor for a nomination — because they're loving the movie. 2

They have added more international voters and they stopped favoring "stars" just to get views. Emilia Perez is being pushed so hard the by the movie industry outside the US for some reason and I'm sure that gave a huge advantage for Zoe. I feel like there's always a war between US voters and the rest of the world voters. I remember few years ago when Penelope Cruz got nominated for Parallel Mothers while being absent whole season. That was good example of the rest of the world voters uniting. 1
DanyelP23 Posted Monday at 12:28 PM Posted Monday at 12:28 PM (edited) My thots on supporting actress: Saldana - presumed frontrunner Grande - BP nominee, box office smash, successful transition into serious acting Rossellini - veteran, Hollywood royalty, in a competitive BP nominee Qualley - respected relative "newcomer", BP nominee, buzzy movie and performance with possible Best Actress front runner Jones - strong BP contender, previous nominee I can't help but compare Gomez with Stephanie Hsu. IF Emilia Perez becomes an industry juggernaut and somehow ends up the Best Picture winner pick, she might get in. The difference is that Hsu was highly praised for her performance. Selena So far has GG nom, while Hsu got CC + SAG. It will be interesting to see whether Selena makes it in SAG or BAFTA (my assumption is that she will not, at SAG at least, and while I'm less confident, I can see her missing BAFTA too). I also doubt Emilia Perez is gonna have the strength of EEAAO Edit: there's also a possible passion pick in Deadwyler, but she seems done, and a longshot with Michele Austin. I might just cave and finally watch it this week. I've only been hesitating cause it seems like something I would absolutely love while understanding why so many are off-put by it. I love a good absurd pop opera. The sex change clinic scene that went viral on Twitter was camp brilliance to me. (Poor Repo! The Genetic Opera being probably 20 years too early and would be considered brilliant if done by Netflix in 2024) Also need to watch The Brutalist for fellow Hungarian girly Adrien Brody though the pieces I've seen about its open-ended / unclear view on Zionism is.. Like can you name one role/movie outside of her franchises?
OnlyManInTheWorld Posted Monday at 12:38 PM Posted Monday at 12:38 PM If anyone is going to upset Saldana, it's Rossellini. She's the industry veteran and massively overdue. Many Academy members would see it as the last chance to award her. Still, the passion for Emilia Perez might be enough for Zoe to prevail. 1
hausofdave Posted Monday at 12:42 PM Posted Monday at 12:42 PM BAFTA is Comedy 4 + Winslet but I am unsure about the 6th spot

Rosellini did great but she had 1 min of dialogue and nothing will change in the plot if you remove her character. Well acted, but unterutilized. Zoe is complete opposite, too much screentime, too much dialogue and practically the main character. She did very well but really unfair.
Eóghan Posted Monday at 12:50 PM Posted Monday at 12:50 PM Nikki Glaser killed it, that's all i'll say. I hope she's back next year, didn't know much about that girl but she impressed me. Other than that i never cared about Globe results.
