igninton Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 About Conclave - however many movies can the film industry produce about the exact SAME plot and have the whole industry praise predictable performances out of a predictable script?
Donquizote Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 If either Torres or Rosselini get nominated at Oscar, they will join the list of both mother and daughter gets nominated at Oscar.

DanyelP23 Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 I'm confused as to why people kept predicting Kidman getting in for a movie titled Babygirl, in which she is the only realistic contender for a nomination. Especially when there is no narrative or incentive to reward her with another nomination. She could get in at SAG and BAFTA (she would not be getting in at BAFTA anyway) and I still wouldn't predict her for an Oscar nom. 1
fridayteenage Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 tbh conclave's premise just made me think of Angels and Demons, but with less mystery and mayhem. drama globe + aacta intl actress for playing real-life person: Lee Previous Winner Flower Moon *Nom Maestro Previous Nominee *Nom Blonde *Nom (sorta Fabelmans Previous Nominee *Nom) Ricardos Previous Winner *Nom Spencer *Nom Gucci Previous Nominee Ma Rainey Previous Winner *Nom Judy Previous Winner *Win Bombshell Previous Winner *Nom Loving *Nom Jackie Previous Winner *Nom Wild Previous Winner *Nom Theory of Everything *Nom Philomena Previous Winner *Nom Impossible Previous Nominee *Nom Iron Lady Previous Winner *Win Only Gucci missed. It was a weird year thanks to Covid and there was an overflow of biopics to default to. 1
Donquizote Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 National Society of Film Critics this week. I am predicting Jean Baptiste will sweep TRIFECTA. Can't believe that Globes is also this week. If Erivo wins Musical instead of Madison, I think she is locked for nomination. I've been skeptical with Erivo's nomination, considering that she can follow Robbie's trajectory and get snubbed. But Wicked is a famous Broadway musical and Erivo has strong and showy performance in Wicked, unlike Robbie in Barbie.

A big nominations haul at BAFTA is gonna be crucial for this movie I think Saldana will get the nom but not the win and I can see Gascon missing I take it you missed this:
Kylizzle Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 Gascon is happening, sis is more locked than Madison thanks to her narrative and movie strength. This is the biggest reason why Torres probably won't happen. 1

Anatomy definitely had a much stronger consensus around it and a Palme win, but I think this year being a clearly weaker season (imo) kinda neutralizes it for EP. It's still shaping up to be the big Euro fav this year that still has domestic support and a very strong campaign. 1
Donquizote Posted Wednesday at 05:57 PM Posted Wednesday at 05:57 PM Yes, I think it's possible for AMPAS to snub Cynthia which is a shame because she gave the showiest and the best performance for Lead Actress last year. While Baptiste is very good, I think her performance was quite annoying sometime like Hawkins in Happy Go Lucky.
ctlp27 Posted Wednesday at 10:16 PM Posted Wednesday at 10:16 PM Curse continue with the underwhelming Babygirl. A very okay movie, not as provocative or forward thinking as it think it is. Also quite boring. Seeing Eyes Wide Shut the next day for a special screening, the contrast was dire for Kidman. That was a performance and a movie. Really enjoyed Nosferatu. Not sure why they kept the movie out of the campaign because I really think it could have gone to BP and BA.

Kylizzle Posted Thursday at 06:14 AM Posted Thursday at 06:14 AM Demi has the horror campaign on lock and there is certainly not room for two. 2 1
hausofdave Posted Thursday at 03:00 PM Posted Thursday at 03:00 PM in the history of AMPAS, Davis is the only Black actress who has been nom twice for lead. Given the history of AMPAS and BAFTA, wouldn't be surprised if Cynthia gets snubbed for both. SAG is locked for Cynthia though. Yes, I am entertaining the possibility of all white line up for this category this year. 1

Yeah but to be honest, it def has more a Burton-esque vibe than horror. I really think this could have gone further because of how well received it is at the box office (but I'm sure they did not expect it)
Donquizote Posted Thursday at 06:32 PM Posted Thursday at 06:32 PM It will be interesting if Cynthia gets snubbed for Oscar and BAFTA, but SAG members rally behind her and she wins SAG. This will be like Regina Hall vs Weist all over again when Blunt won SAG for A Quiet Place.

Donquizote Posted Thursday at 07:55 PM Posted Thursday at 07:55 PM I already take out Cynthia from my prediction. Thinking she will get snubbed at BAFTA and Oscar will follow suit. It's a shame because that's the performance from I've seen last year. While I like Mikey in Anora, the performance felt like one note until the end of the movie where she had one good Oscar scene.
