So Universal released deleted scenes from Wicked with blue/green screen showing how much of it was actually CGI like I said, not even indoor sets were build, only props. So where's that one person claiming it wasn't?

This has to be one of the most payolad movies in recent history. So glad it bombed outside english speaking markets. The rest of the world always knows better.

How do you payola a movie? :rip:

Just finished A Different Man, and wow, an excellent film. Kinda the Tár, May December equivalent for this year :clap3:

It's so thematically complex but also very complete, and uses such an interesting blend of genre and tones to get there. It probes shame and victimhood in such a compelling, cautionary way. It should be winning Original Screenplay and Actor. :clap3:

Unless Saoirse gets saved by BAFTA.

I'd find it boring, but I could see the bob Dylan impression winning.

Better received if less popular than the  elvis

Joker serving Artpop, Amy still in the trenches, Blitz being a total no1curr... it was rough

Remember when Best Director was between McQueen and Villeneuve, Blitz and Ronan were sweeping, people still had hope for Megalopolis, and no one even knew what an Emilia Perez or a The Substance was? Good times.

Conclave has survived the whole year as a top contender tho with berger, fiennes, tucci attached

I still believe these supporting categories will be looking locked by the end of January. And yes Saldaña is snatching.

I've been so out of loop with any releases that weren't music because it was my Master's thesis year... All that I know is that I want Anora to sweep...

Which other movies from this year are absolute must watch?

Posted

Babygirl 51% RT Audience. Lower than Spencer now. Still has a long way to match Blonde's 36% but Kidman is not playing Diana or Monroe.

I saw the movie and I fear she is not happening. It was a good performance but Angelina is far superior and they seem to be competing for the same spot.

Best Actress is very hard to predict this year as we have several veterans vying for that limited 5 spots.

My prediction before Globes:

1. Mikey Madison (LOCKED) (strong movie, an ingenue who AMPAS like to nominate, and she has critical acclaim performance)

2. Karla Sofia Gascon (LOCKED) (strong movie and she has strong narrative for nomination)

3. Angelina Jolie (may be snubbed, but AMPAS love biopic and they usually nominate 2-3 actresses per year for playing real person)

4. Cynthia Erivo (may be snubbed, but her movie is strong and she has strong showy performance playing iconic Broadway character)

5. Demi Moore (may be snubbed, but her role has passion pick)

Am I alone in thinking Emilia Perez doesn't even feel like it's the passion vote for the European block and AMPAS won't care for it?

A big nominations haul at BAFTA is gonna be crucial for this movie

I think Saldana will get the nom but not the win and I can see Gascon missing

I fear you are alone. EP has the most organized push since Joe Biden 2020 presidential campaign

Emilia Perez slayed at Cannes and European Award. That movie seriously has strong support among European voters.

Plus, Gascon is nominated at AACTA.

Gascon is locked for nomination. She has narrative, performance, and strong movie.

I will be shocked if she misses.
