Does it though? He got one of the biggest hits of all time with OTR before he even came out as gay and it was the longest running #1 hit of all time before he had any controversy at all

 

The CMBYN video helped draw attention, but it wouldn't have been such a big hit based just on controversy, it was a hit because people liked the song and it already went viral way before the video even came out. Industry Baby was hardly controversial, just had a video that was quite boundary pushing for a mainstream male rapper, and that was a huge smash too. Then TWIW was another top ten and that was just a pop song that worked well on radio.

Miss the days when comebacks used to be a reference to a smash era after an underperformance and not just new releases. Tho I trust he'll have some hits. This. No idea why it suddenly means “next album cycle” instead of active again after a period of stagnation (Sade 2010), away from LPs (Daft Punk 2013) or after tarnished public reputation (Mariah 2005, Bieber 2015)
