Um what I think they are saying is that in the early 80's none of them pop stars (Madge included) spoke openly about AIDS, it was end of the decade when she became vocal. That doesn't deminish her role in fight against it:michael:

Nnn… that statement in the first photo is absolutely incorrect. Madonna’s who’s that girl tour date at Madison Square Garden in 1987 was essentially an AIDS benefit and Like a Prayer albums released in 1989 contained a card with info about AIDS. Freddie died in 1991 so to say that she didn’t do anything for it before his death is absolutely incorrect. I don’t know enough about Prince to speak on him atm.

Prince was one of those straight men who got bullied in high school and so he associated traditional masculinity with his tormentors and rejected it, so he wanted to be artsy and play with notions of sexuality and whatnot, but at his core he was still a very homophobic conservative straight man and it jumped out later in life once he found God or whatever

I think it was just badly put together... rereading it it does sound like no one (Madge included) did nothing untill '91 when Freddie died

Madonna hadn’t even debuted yet when AIDS was first identified in the US in the early 80s :rip: (Not that it was it being recognized as a crisis yet anyways).

What should she have been doing in the early 80s? Her own lab research?

However, she was vocal about it shortly after gaining an international platform — one user above just gave an example from 1987. The name for HIV wasn’t even coined until 1986. I hardly think she was being quiet.

How do you have a display for the start of the "Video Era" and then make a typo of one of the focal words in the second sentence :rip:

She also visited French President Jacques Chirac in 1987 while on tour in Paris and donated 87,000€ for AIDS Charities in France.

She became vocal around that year which was when more information started to come out it’s not like it was plenty of information and data in 1983-84.

Thats when the effects of aids were really seen and people started dropping dead in bulks... Her best friend martin died in 1986. Literally as she released true blue. one year later she was promoting safe sex and fighting the stigma.

Its also know she was already paying for doctor of her dying friends back then and bringing new drugs from abroad

Yes M debuted in 83 and Like a virgin was 84...

In 86 she already started ger actvism

Madonna introduced Joe Namath, who read a statement from Jerry Smith, the former Washington Redskins football player, who is the first known professional athlete to admit to having acquired immune deficiency syndrome.

This is a blatant lie and should be corrected. Infuriating.

I wouldn't doubt for a second this was AI generated and it's using as a source that little monster troll who blamed the AIDS crisis on Madonna :rip:

Madonna was literally talking about aids on her first ww tour though. That was on 1987. She also hosted fundraisers during the year before i think. That’s hardly “at the end of the decade”
