liquiddiamonds Posted December 28, 2023 Posted December 28, 2023 (edited) Agreed with the user above. The sexism is correct and the tongue-n-cheek message was lost, but if we're being real the Intuition controversy actually gave her one extra relevant era. She was already underperforming with This Way. It was only Platinum, whereas her two previous albums were all multi-platinum with multiple hits. All of the Lilith Fair women struggled in the early 2000s, except those that honed a faithful fanbase. Tori Amos, Sarah McLachlan, Sheryl Crow and Alanis survived the initial cut while the industry limited their appeal to only Adult Contemporary audiences and repackaged their sound with younger faces like Michelle Branch, Amy Lee, Avril and Vanessa Carlton with new trends. Liz Phair would've had the same destiny without her self-titled. It was a transitional time where Millennials were starting to drive music consumption and new songwriters were coming up driven by Pitchfork, blogs and TV Shows placements (think Norah Jones, Regina Spektor, Brandi Carlile, Sara Bareilles, Feist, Joanna Newsom, Colbie Caillat, Ingrid Michaelson, etc). I think only Fiona Apple from that era successfuly transitioned from Gen X superstar to cult artist that people still check out the new music. She made the right artistic choices instead of commercial ones Edited December 28, 2023 by liquiddiamonds 2 1 1
JoeAg Posted December 28, 2023 Posted December 28, 2023 @family.guy123 oh I’m sorry babe did I say something that bothered you?
JoeAg Posted December 28, 2023 Posted December 28, 2023 anyway. I feel bad for Jewel for having to go through this :( idk why the climate was so awful back then. so many talented women and a lot were constantly brought down. very unfair… 1 1
Sexyzinger Posted December 29, 2023 Posted December 29, 2023 Jewel is amazing. Incredible music and her tone is so beautiful. Taylor Swift flop ass voice is a mess compared, easy to see hehe. 2 1
EnterTheAttic Posted December 29, 2023 Posted December 29, 2023 She's so crazy talented, and Intuition is the best pop song of all time, so she won in the end. 2 1
Genius1111 Posted December 30, 2023 Posted December 30, 2023 It's funny how earlier in December, I heard Intuition on the radio for the first time in nearly 2 decades, and then I find 3 threads on ATRL about this song in the 3 weeks after that. It is really pop perfection! Since I'm Good (Blue) and Creepin' have become hits in 2022/2023, it would great if Jewel herself or some other singer do a remake of this song (with updated references to 2020s pop culture, of course) and make it a single. I think there's potential for this remake to do well. 1
livelikemusic Posted January 6 Posted January 6 She did IT then and she's doing it in this performance, which I will always come back to. David Geffen is gross for his actions, too.
