John was a lyrical genius while Paul is more of a talented songwriter.

Jon died young (ish) and tragically. that in itself makes him an enduring icon as it does any other famous person whose life is cut short (JFK, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Diana). 

 

but imo Paul had the more profilic music career
