I want to see him succeed, and I've liked a lot of his songs, but the antics are getting tired and the music itself felt stale on arrival. He needs to stop trying to cause controversy , and try to find his fanbase and appeal to them.

His time as a commercial pop artist bagging number ones has always been limited I think, but he’s done a damn good job extending his success thus far. I think, if he pivots and really figures out a way to market himself, he could still pull out one more era with two or three commercial Top 10s. But his hitmaking abilities have always been driven by virality and controversy, which can only sustain someone alone for so long.

After this era, I think his best marketing move would be to try and position himself as the “REAL artist” kind of figure. Come back with a Frank Oceanesque album: experimental RnB, quality lyricism, sweeping orchestral instrumentals. And have something to say. Does he have it in him to make an album like that? I don’t know. But the man has vision, so I’d be willing to be he can surprise us.

That’s what I’d push for if I was his manager anyway. He was never going to be able to sustain the Old Town Road/Montero model for long.

Maybe he could invest his time in making good, listenable music instead of pushing buttons and trying to create controversy things would change for him

tbh song was not comeback worthy its kinda giving promo singl/album track. He needs a strong second single with global appeal to turn things around for him me thinks

I love the mv tho. Choreo is sick and I like his outfits

No this is not his Attention. Attention was never intended to smash, while J Christ was definitely intended to. Additionally, in order for him to have his own Paint The Town Red the general public would have to be interested in what comes next and we already know that's not going to happen.

Towards the bottom of the Hot 100 is not the place he should be starting at this point in his career.

He should release a Lovin on me type of song and he can have a hit

Attention went top 40 with no radio support and is 2x Grammy nominated, don’t Attention like that.

We have to be realistic here

Not every song will debut high,  some might debut low and work their way up.

The problem is he’s not a good rapper and he can’t sing. But yeah, he can’t be a clown forever and continue to succeed.

Not every song will, but this song was clearly expected to by Lil Nas X and his label. The hype and support behind this was substantial and they expected a much higher debut than #72. I get you want to support him but I think it's you that's struggling to be realistic here, sis.

Just say that he's delusional and end of story. The song flopped hard
