TheWayWeWere Posted January 5 Author Posted January 5 (edited) GRAND FINALE IS HERE ! THANKS EVERYONE FOR COMMENTS AND EVERYTHING! LOVE Y'ALL! T O P 5 0 A L B U M S Quote 10 Carly Rae Jepsen | The Loveliest Time "Don't wake me 'cause I'm lucid dreamin'" I honestly can't believe our sis just out-do her own album with a b-sides partner 'Carly Rae Jepsen’s The Loveliest Time expands her B-Sides offerings by creating a compilation that distinguishes itself from its predecessor' (c) PopMatters highlights: So Right, Kamikaze, Psychedelic Switch, Put It To Rest Quote 9 Taylor Swift | Speak Now (Taylor's Version) "I'd die for you in the same way if I first saw your face" I never really got into Taylor's music before 'Red', so those re-recording are a gift for me Not a masterpiece like 'Red (TV)', but it's still amazingly good, well-written and mature. '13 years later, a significant chapter in Taylor's rise to super-stardom is given a contemporary twist. The results are stunning' (c) Rolling Stone highlights: Electric Touch, Timeless, Castles Crumbling, Enchanted (TV), Dear John (TV) Quote 8 Kelela | Raven "You want a top and so I'm following up on the low" I still can't believe we finally got 2nd album from her and what's more, how good it is. 'Raven sits on its own plinth. Unassociated with any genre past, present or future, it simply exists like a grand Kubrick or Tarkovsky film, where any frame can be paused and in its stillness one can see the complexity of symmetry at play' (c) LoudAndQuiet highlights: Let It Go, Missed Call, Closure, Raven, Bruises Quote 7 Aly & AJ | With Love From "I should face my ****, I'm uncomfortable as it is" While 'a touch of the beat...' was folk-pop album, this one is mostly just folk - but they did it with their own twist and charm. It's pretty simple and maybe too one-sided, but it's extremely mature and thoughtful work. 'Aly & AJ’s With Love From recalls classic Americana imagery and sounds like two women reveling in the joy of creating music representing who they are' (c) PopMatters highlights: Sunchoke, Way of Nature Way of Grace, Tear the Night Up, Talking in My Sleep Quote 6 Janelle Monáe | The Age of Pleasure "I'm young and I'm black and I'm wild" I still don't get how this album is hated my so many people - yeah, it's less creative and less experimental than her previous work - but it's the ******* concept of it. This album is definition of the summer, it feels hot because of the sunlight that goes through this record, it's fun, it's wet, it's joyful. 'For her fourth album, Monáe trades sci-fi mythologising for carnally-minded joy' (c) TheIndependent highlights: The Rush, Phenomenal, Haute, Know Better Quote 5 Jessie Ware | That! Feels Good! "I wake up in the morning and I ask myself - what am I doing on this planet?" This album is less agressive and less interesting that 'What's Your Pleasure', it leans more into retro trajectory - but it's incredibly delightful record, which I found pleasure to listen to. 'If That! Feels Good! lacks anything, it’s a moment of downtime to break up the partying. But this is a minor quibble, because when it’s this fun who wants the party to stop anyway?' (c) TheSydneyMorningHerald highlights: Beautiful People, That! Feels Good!, These Lips, Hello Love Quote 4 Lana Del Rey | Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd "I see in technicolor, maybe I’ll take my glasses off so I stop painting red flags green" I just don't know how this woman just can't stop releasing masterpieces This ***** is unstoppable, really 'Beyond simply toggling between different Lana eras, several songs on Did you know synthesize the personality-driven pop genius and the hyper-specific singer-songwriter, demonstrating how tight a grasp she maintains on her multi-faceted vision and how drastically she's evolved as an artist' (c) Exclaim highlights: Fingertips, Paris Texas, Grandfather please stand on the shoulders, Margaret Quote 3 Kylie Minogue | Tension "I know your star sign, what's on your bedside?" Probably could've been better after stellar first two singles, but this is still a brilliant pop record by a pop veteran - very sexy, fun, kinda agressive and interesting to return to. I need more risks from her in future tho. 'The Aussie star plays it safe but there’s no denying the twirling pleasures of her latest album' (c) TheIndependent highlights: Heavenly Body, Things We Do For Love, Green Light, Hands Quote 2 Miley Cyrus | Endless Summer Vacation "We could stay like this forever, lost in wonderland" At first it felt like a disappointment, especially after first single, but even tho it didn't have a lot of hit material, this is album remains pretty perfect at its pop status. It's very light, breezy, summery - something she promised in the title. I still can't believe how she never did anything to promote it, but well.. it worked on its own for me, it was a perfect soundtrack for my own summer vacation. 'After years trying to reconcile chart success with her leftfield musical instincts, the singer has delivered a hazily atmospheric album that plays to her provocative strengths' (c) TheGuardian highlights: Violet Chemistry, Rose Colored Lenses, Handstand, Thousand Miles Quote 1 SZA | SOS "Can you hate on me and mask it with laughter?" Honestly, I would've been surprised if she delievered a bad record - this woman has an ear for a perfect r&b cuts and incredible talent. Those 5 years were too much, but worth the wait in the end. 'SZA’s widely anticipated sophomore record SOS delivers on all fronts. Her honest lyricism, vocal work, collaborations and genre versatility keep the tracks fresh and make each an individual step forward in her artistry' (c) SpectrumCulture highlights: F2F, Gone Girl, Love Language, Forgiveless, Ghost in the Machine T O P 1 5 0 S I N G L E S Quote 10 Caroline Polachek | Welcome to My Island "Nothing's gonna be the same again" Great vocal performance, great synthy production and great structure. This song SMELLS like summer even tho it was released during the winter. Quote 9 Lana Del Rey | Did you know that there's a tunnel under Ocean Blvd "**** me to death, love me until I love myself" Both beautiful and complex, triumphant, deep, heart-breaking lead single. The way she just keeps on elevating simple piano ballads into something magical is so unique. Quote 8 SZA | Kill Bill "Rather be in jail than alone" It's brilliantly simple, fun, catchy, hadorable bop - and there's some magic in that simplicity. Quote 7 Madonna, The Weeknd & Playboi Carti | Popular "She calls the paparazzi, then she acts surprised" The way The Weeknd creates this song for his horrible show but never used it, even tho it matches up with it perfectly The song is amazing, it's playful and catchy and vibey - I really love that sound on Madonna, she should've used it much more - both Crave and this one are one of her best post-2015 songs. Quote 6 Jessie Ware | Begin Again "Gimme something good that's even better than it seems" I'm ******* SLAYED. My wig just flew away - it's easily one of the best disco songs of the year - it's epic, lush, sensual, energetic.. whew! Quote 5 Kylie Minogue | Tension "Call me Kylie, don't imitate" This is freaking amazing I think it's one of her best songs ever - it's innovative, it's catchy as hell, it's sexy, it's fun - I honestly can't find another song of hers that sounds so FRESH in the recent years. Quote 4 Troye Sivan | Rush "Translate your vibration, let your body talk to me" This song is like...full of drugs in a good way Quote 3 Miley Cyrus | Jaded "We went to Hell, but we never came back" I honestly hate both GP and her for not making this a big hit. This is literally one of her best songs ever WTF The vocals and emotions alone Quote 2 Kylie Minogue | Padam Padam "I get the shivers every time you say my name" Thanks for every gay out there who makes this song a hit Quote 1 Miley Cyrus | Flowers "I can love me better than you can" I don't think there was any other real candidate for a SOTY on my list this year This was the biggest, inescapable and unforgettable music event this year Edited January 5 by TheWayWeWere

ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted January 5 ATRL Moderator Posted January 5 your albums list EATS (except for that horrible Janelle album) TLT and ESV are maybe a bit too high tho Welcome To My Island is one of my faves on Desire. I would've included it had it not been released in 2022. Kill Bill, Begin Again, Tension, Jaded Padam Padam so happy it's higher than Tension Flowers as a #1 is a choice tho
