JGibson Posted January 3 Posted January 3 Cruel Summer + bad idea right? + mine + Blue Dress + Used To Be So Young + Running Out Of Time 1989 (Taylor's Version) in albums
KasioKas Posted January 3 Posted January 3 Yup Chemistry was great, agree with your Ellie review as well 2 hours ago, TheWayWeWere said: Loved these songs and Chloe's album getting a high placement
Kiss It Better Posted January 3 Posted January 3 On the Run + Contact + Moonlight + Cheatback + Cruel Summer + Shirt i kinda prefer Freak Me Now solo tbh, Roisin Murphy kinda ruined it for me
Mr. Loco Posted January 3 Posted January 3 One of your girls video is so addictive bad idea right? & Miracle are bops
ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted January 4 ATRL Moderator Posted January 4 Ugh so happy to see The Lost Tapes being praised even though I didn't listen to the songs before the official release, they still sound extremely fresh to me Gag Order is great, but a bit overrated for me. 1989 was also great, and I agree that the borefests got upgraded. I also don't believe she wrote the vault tracks back then x. Cruel Summer, On The Run, When The Rain Comes, Freak Me Now, Eat The Acid, Blue Dress, Moonlight, BIR, Contact, Shirt all amazing However, MINE :jonny5: :jonny5: :jonny5: :jonny5: BEST SONG EVER ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND WHY AM I MISSING YOU TONIGHT
TheWayWeWere Posted January 4 Author Posted January 4 FINALE tommorrow thanks for comments y'all T O P 5 0 A L B U M S Quote 16 Amaarae | Fountain Baby "You give me something and I'm thanking you for nothing" THE biggest discovery of the year for me. I can't believe I only found out about this record by the end of the year It's ******* brilliant. It celebrates African sensuality and Afrofuturism, it's soulful, danceable, shiny, moving, lush, fluid. One of the most unique listen I have this year. 'The boundaries for African music are constantly moving, and across this album, Amaarae pushes them even further' (c) NME highlights: Sex Violence Suicide, Sociopathic Dance Queen, Come Home To God, Angels in Tibet, Big Steppa Quote 15 Olivia Rodrigo | GUTS "Another day pretendin' I'm older than I am" This is so..surprisingly good? I didn't really expected a lot of her, especially since it doesn't seem like she doesn't really change her sound since SOUR, but GUTS improves on SOUR overall so much. There's so much diversity, it's more consistent and mature, more artistic output which showcases solid artistic growth from her. 'All over Guts, she’s so witty, so pissed off, so angsty at the same time, the way only a rock star can be. And this is the album of a truly brilliant rock star' (c) RollingStone highlights: all-american *****, obsessed, love is embarrassing, pretty isn't pretty, teenage dream Quote 14 Caroline Polachek | Desire, I Want to Turn Into You "I don't know, but I believe we'll get another day together" Caroline is clearly one of the most talented pop artists right now. It's more poppy than her previous records, but not in a bad way. It's impressive and diverse pop album, it so immaculate produced, her vocals are insane, and the sound of it is astonishing. I really love the inspiration from early 00s pop music with a lot of weirdness she comes with. 'Desire, I Want to Turn Into You is one of these future classics. ... Engaging at every turn and carefully calibrated to its point of view, it represents art pop hitting yet another dizzy apex' (c) PopMatters highlights: Fly To You, Pretty In Possible, I Believe, Smoke Quote 13 Troye Sivan | Something to Give Each Other "Give me a song to rock your body, a lucid dream" With his third record Troye finally found the way into my heart. It's sexy, lush, fun, energetic listen, it's liberating in a good way. Like a breath of fresh air it's so pop at its best, but unique in a lot of ways. The singles are highlights of course, but there's a lot of gems you can find love to. 'Something to Give Each Other succeeds because Sivan has been freed: to be who he wants to be and express that through his most engaging and addictive album to date' (c) AllMusic highlights: Honey, Silly, What's the Time Where You Are?, How to Stay with You Quote 12 Christine and the Queens | PARANOÏA, ANGELS, TRUE LOVE "Give me your heart, my darling, as it breaks, my baby" Whew, the production is freaking amazing, it's so nuanced and intersting. The album is divided in three pieces that showcases different stages of mind. It'so overall pretty dark, but you can always find a light in every track, you can feel his emotions through the songs, you never get bored while listening to it. Sometimes it feels like a musical with its incredible lyrics and ambitious themes. 'Hypnotically melodic, clever, stylish, serious, fun, addictively unexpected and euphorically danceable, it’s the kind of pop they don’t make any more' (c) TheGuardian highlights: Lick the light out, Marvin descending, I feel like an angel, I met an angel, We have to be friends Quote 11 RAYE | My 21st Century Blues "Baby, you can go ahead cry those Oscar-winning tears" I'm so happy she finally released this record - she's an incredible songwriter, and here she's at her best. She shines with her deep lyrics, even in the darkest there's some warm and uplifting moments. The record is full of soul, full of her emotions, passion and energy. 'A very brave, strong record. Hats off, Raye. These blues are smoking hot' (c) TheIndependent highlights: Oscar Winning Tears, The Thrill Is Gone, Body Dysmorphia, Worth It, Buss It Down T O P 1 5 0 S I N G L E S Quote 38 Chlöe, Latto | For The Night "I asked myself why we can't be closer" I honestly can't believe she cancelled this song from her album and this song wasn't a hit for her It's her best single to date, maybe kinda basic, but it's so nostalgia fueled and vulnerable, I can't stop listen to it. Latto was wrong choice for a feature tho Quote 37 RAYE, cassö & D-Block Europe | Prada "Feel like I'm in Prince's house, purple paint all on the walls" This is so surprisingly good I mean, I never liked the original, but this **** has some crack on it! I rarely listen to sped-up versions and etc, but here sped-up makes the song a major BANGER. Quote 36 Taylor Swift | I Can See You (Taylor's Version) "What would you do if I went to touch you now?" This really stoood out to me from Speak Now re-recording, instrumental, her vocal delievery and sexy suggestive lyrics are amazing on it. Quote 35 Mitski | My Love Mine All Mine "Tell me if I could send up my heart to you?" I'm so happy she had a hit this year, there's songs in her discography that deserved this success more, but I love it too. It's unbelievable memorable and beautiful, very lightly, shiny, emotional. It's so unreal and cosmic. Quote 34 Troye Sivan | Got Me Started "He's got the sexuality of a man who can take a room and drown it out" Sample works so good on it. It makes the song even more groovy and blissful. 'Got Me Started, which rides a sample from electronic duo Bag Raiders into an instant, shout-it-out earworm' (c) Rolling Stone Quote 33 The Weeknd, Metro Boomin & 21 Savage | Creepin' "Did you show him all those things that you used to do to me?" Another sample-driven song and another smash! Mario Winans' classic stays unbothered, but The Weeknd's touch on it is amazing, his vocals are heavenly and overall song gave you 2000s vibes, which I LOVE personally. Quote 32 SZA | Snooze "How you blame it on me and you the main one lyin'?" One of the standouts from the album, but I'm actually surprised how big it became There's so much better songs on SOS, I hope they'll shine too. Quote 31 Mahalia, JoJo | Cheat "You've got the guilt written all over your face" This is like modern 'The Boy Is Mine' love that they made this collab Quote 30 Olivia Rodrigo | get him back! "Do I love him? Do I hate him? I guess it's up and down" Yeah, it's kinda silly and goofy punk pop song, but it hits so hard! One of her bests ever. Quote 29 Tove Lo | I Like U "I wish I was your girlfriend, is she with you tonight?" This is so addictive, very simple but in effective way I honestly don't know if she can ever release a bad song. Quote 28 Carly Rae Jepsen | Shy Boy "You're pretty, we're drinking, so I say what I'm thinking" Not my instant favorite, but it grew on me so much. I really love funk/disco inspiration on it and some cool percussion. Quote 27 Lana Del Rey | The Grants "My grandmother's last smile I'm gonna take that too with me" Wow. Trimphant opening for an album, it's like she took us to church with heavely backing vocals, violins, choirs - I love its gospel inspirations. Very cinematic and beautiful. Quote 26 Ellie Goulding | By the End of the Night "By the end of the night I wanna be the only one in the world" This is extremely catchy, should've been a major hit for her. 'It blends pop, new wave, and EDM with an 80s-inspired beat. The song’s lyrical content is about wanting to be with someone and having a night adventure with them' (c) Yourstruly Quote 25 Jessie Ware | Pearls "I'm a lady, I'm a lover, a freak and a mother" Probably my least favorite single from album, but it's still so good and ear-worming 'Pearls is a defiant rarity that falls in love with its disco charms and runs them through with clarity and pop-oriented courage' (c) CultFollowing Quote 24 Doja Cat | Paint the Town Red "I'd rather be famous instead" I didn't really like it at first, but once video came out, this was immediate love, the use of the sample is brilliant here, it never outshines the song itself, and her delievery is great. Amazingly catchy and addictive. Quote 23 Billie Eilish | What Was I Made For? "I forgot how to be happy" Whew. This deserves an oscar. The best scene in the movie has this song and it completely compliments the story of the movie the way very few others do. Quote 22 Aly & AJ | Baby Lay Your Head Down "I handled you like broken porcelain but really I'm the one that's delicate" This is the song you'd play while cruising down the freeway on a road trip in the middle of nowhere. It's so soulful and anthemic. Quote 21 P!nk | TRUSTFALL "Are we just too scared to fight for what we want tonight?" One of her best songs in years and years. I mean it's hard to expect something different or innovative from her this days, but this sound is so suitful for her, very fresh and catchy. Quote 20 Miley Cyrus | River "I got a new dress just to meet you downtown" I honestly can't believe how bad this flopped This is a hit all written on it. It's so intense, sassy, memorable, punching, addictive Quote 19 Shakira, Bizarrap | Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53 "Perdón que te salpique" Probably the best thing Shakira released in almost 10 years She should've made these angry anthems much often. We need emotions! Not regular boring cute spanish one-off singles. Quote 18 SZA | Nobody Gets Me "Took a long vacation, no makeup, just Jay-Z" I kinda hate how Kill Bill overshadowed this jam. It's such a beautiful ballad that could've been highlight in her single discography. Her voice + guitar always sounds so good together. So beautifully full of truth and pain. Quote 17 Rita Ora, Fatboy Slim | Praising You "Who knew love would leave me feelin' this good?" It's the best thing she released this year I hate that it flopped. Amazing sample usage, flawless music video with a homage to original, fun lyrics, banging chorus. Quote 16 Aly & AJ | After Hours "You've had far worse days so pour a drink, I'll do the same" Another great blend of acostic folk music with pop upbeat elements. Probably the easiest song to listen from album and the one that shines the most. Quote 15 Tove Lo | Borderline "I like to push you to the edge as long as you say you're mine" I can't believe this never make it to the original album It's one of the best songs of the era Quote 14 Janelle Monáe | Lipstick Lover "I like lipstick on my neck" Another major grower, it's so racy and sexy and hot and fresh and summery - kinda the perfect song listen on your vacation. This sounds like swimming pools and the smell of lemons. Quote 13 FLO | Cardboard Box "Hope that she was worth my wasted time but could she do it like I do?" I know this was released ages ago, but I've heard it only this year - and WTF why this wasn't #1 smash all over the world This is amazing! Such a great throwback to early 00s r&b smashes with a freshness all over it. Their voices blends like a honey to the ears. Quote 12 Charli XCX | Speed Drive "Barbie, you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind" Tbh this deserves an oscar nomination too It's so addictive and catchy and reckless. Quote 11 Lana Del Rey | A&W "It's not about havin' someone to love me anymorе - this is the experiеnce of bein' an American *****" Wow. It's such a masterpiece. The change through the song makes this even better. Very epic, dready and badass. One of her bests ever for sure.

Desire is a masterpiece but why is Troye above her Raye and Christine also served I Can See You is cute. Snooze Get Him Back is a bop. Shy Boy is one of my faves from Carly's slightly overrated album The Grants, By The End of The Night, Pearls What Was I Made For? is stunning Baby Lay Your Head Down and After Hours Trustfall is cute but not better than Mine xox.
