TheWayWeWere Posted December 30, 2023 Author Posted December 30, 2023 T O P 5 0 A L B U M S Quote 30 P!nk | TRUSTFALL "І'll mаkе ѕоmе mіѕtаkеѕ and уоu'll wаtсh mе аѕ І lіvе thеm 'tіl І'm thrоugh, 'til І'm wіth уоu" Is it her best album? No. Is this a masterpiece? No. Is it the bad album? No. I actually can't understand why this album got a lot of hate, I feel like this is much better than anything she released since...like 2017? Maybe on par with Beautiful Trauma album. Yeah, there's some cringe and boring moments, but overall it has some of her best songs, like the title track, and I really love vulnerable sound, especially on the ballads - they're actually amazing on this album. 'Trustfall, her latest studio effort, is the most vulnerable she has been in years in a way that doesn’t sound formulated but honest and reflective' (c) PopMatters highlights: When I Get There, Hate Me, Last Call, Turbulence Quote 29 Kim Petras | Feed the Beast "You fall apart, I always fix it" I feel like this album is too hated on this forum Like, I know the release was a mess, the tracklist is messy, the fact that they never released another single after Alone, Problematique cancellation and eventual release were a still mess. But this album actually gave you a nice glimpse on Kim as an artist - it's pure pop, some dirty, some bubblegum, but infectious as hell. highlights: Claws, King Of Hearts, Hit It From The Back, Minute Quote 28 Mylène Farmer | L'emprise "Je viens d'un autre part n'entre nulle part" Another strong record from french queen of pop, I feel like it's one of her most diverse and interesting albums in like a decade. I really love that she used several different producers and found a good balance between dark pop from her early music and pop sound of her recent eras. highlights: À tout jamais, Bouteille à la mer, D'un autre part, Do You Know Who I Am T O P 1 5 0 S I N G L E S Quote 90 Stormzy, FLO | Hide & Seek "What gives me the pleasure when there ain't an audience?" Original was a bawp already, but this remix is pure brilliance - the way their vocals blend and how vibey it sounds is sick. Quote 89 Kelly Clarkson | favorite kind of high "When you're in the room, all I feel is you" Suprisingly sexy fun pop song showcasing the beginning of the chemistry.zip and the lust. Cute bop which sounds a bit dated tbh. Nice change to hear such an upbeat single from her. Quote 88 Carly Rae Jepsen, Rufus Wainwright | The Loneliest Time "I'm coming back for you, baby" I still think this song in particular is overrated, but I understand why - it's full of disco vibes, it's fuzzy, it's full of glitter and it's pure pop. I really like some kind of weird structure, a lot of breakdowns and string sections. The campiness of the song is just so adorable. Quote 87 Charli XCX, Sam Smith | In The City "All the lights are diamonds in the sky" Nnnn it's so basic and simple and mindless - but wtf, it's infectious as **** I can't seat through the song without bouncing my ass like on the dancefloor. Quote 86 Janelle Monáe | Water Slide "I'm feelin' this high vibration slippin' down the water slide" Not my instand favorite from album, but this sexy dancehall anthem "is a freeing, liberating sound, evoking feelings of wanting to relax/keep it cute on the beach" (c) GrungeCake. Quote 85 Taylor Swift | Lavender Haze "The only kind of girl they see is a one-night or a wife" Tbh the only problem I have with 'Midnights' - it's single run (except Anti-Hero). Even though I understand she choose more commercial sounding songs, I feel like they never really showcasing parent album to the audience. 'Lavender Haze' works great as an opener, with its subtle sultry and quiet sound, but I feel like this was a weak choice for a single. Quote 84 Kelela | Happy Ending "Always knew we could've been something" Gosh this UK garage and drum'n'bass sound is so good with her voice I really love how haunting, kinda humid it is. Production is top-notch. Quote 83 Zara Larsson | End of Time "I want your love to start a fire" I know everyone prefers 'Can't Tame Me' - but this ABBA-esque jam is pure favorite from released singles by her this year I mean, that euphoric ecstatic ending alone I wish this was longer tho. Quote 82 Icona Pop | Fall In Love "You make my senses come alive" Gosh, this is extraordinary dance banger The way this ear-worm anthem got stuck in my mind for a couple of months 'Fall In Love combines a quirky, club-worthy beat with some introspective lyricism that focuses on falling in love, as suggested by the title' (c) When The Horn Blows Quote 81 Róisín Murphy | The Universe "Giving yourself for free, it only shows that you're strong" 'The new single from the Irish singer's upcoming album is a maritime adventure that dials the absurdity up to 10' (c) Pitchfork Quote 80 P!nk | Never Gonna Not Dance Again "You could take all that I got, for once I wouldn't start a fight" Tbh I never got the hate for this song - yeah, it's basic - but it's just carefree fun bawp from her Quote 79 Birdy | Raincatchers "You made me feel like nothing really matters" Wow, this is so Kate Bush inspired, full of beautiful melodies, beautiful and poetic lyricism, a song that leans strongly on 80s alt-pop sound. Probably one of her best leads ever.

ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted December 30, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted December 30, 2023 No, I have to correct you, Trustfall is a bad album. P!nk lost her charm for me tbh. FKOH is a terrible choice from Kelly x. I hope to see mine here too. Lavender Haze is cute. Happy Ending 1

Renzo_ Posted December 30, 2023 Posted December 30, 2023 Lavender Haze One of the best songs of 2023. 1
TheWayWeWere Posted December 31, 2023 Author Posted December 31, 2023 Happy New Year, y'all! see ya next year!) love you T O P 5 0 A L B U M S Quote 27 Kelly Clarkson | chemistry "Did you know there's only one truth?" I certainly expected much more from Kelly considering it's her first album in 6 years. Yeah, her vocals are amazing on this record, she shines through it. But the album feels mostly like a mixed bag, a lot of filler, a lot of basic and generic songs - it's just mostly very predictable tropes of breakup songs. And with the fact there's no music videos and not a lot of promo performances, entire era feels like a non-event. 'Despite Clarkson's rousing performances and optimistic outlook, Chemistry feels cloistered and secluded, lacking pathways into its inner sanctuaries' (c) AllMusic. highlights: skip this part, rock hudson, roses, red flag collector, that's right Quote 26 Mahalia | IRL "This is my story and my vision - maybe I should tell you how I started this mission" Another long-awaited record, but unlike previous entries, this one is great. After a string of 'okay-ish' one-off singles and promising EP, 'IRL' is such a pleasant surprise. Yeah, maybe there's not a lot of something spectacular, but it's such a strong r&b-pop record, the lyrics are dynamic, production is top-notch, there's great amount of lyrics and nostalgia vibe, it feels like one of those almost perfect early 00s r&b records we grew up with. 'It’s an assured, charismatic release with a consistency that sets her above her contemporaries' (c) musicOMH highlights: In My Bag, Isn’t It Strange?, Goodbyes, IRL, Slowly Quote 25 Kali Uchis | Red Moon in Venus "What's the point of all the pretty things in the world if I don't have you?" I knew, and listened to Kali's muci before, but I was never connected to it. Red Moon is r&b paradise at its best, it's sexy, full of lust, passion, charm, her voice is like a warm butter, production is soothing, it mostly feels like a breezy summer afternoon, somewhere close to the sea. 'It’s a lush, lavish, luscious hot tub of an album, conjuring visions of plush feather beds, fluffy pillows and bubble baths, although the lyrics will occasionally jolt the listener out of their chill' (c) Variety. highlights: Happy Now, Fantasy, Blue, Deserve Me, Hasta Cuando Quote 24 Fall Out Boy | So Much (for) Stardust "I miss the way that I felt nothing" Amazing comeback from FOB. Yeah, it's a bit of a rehash from their previous works and old rock cliches, but it's still their best record in years and years. It's fun, full of energy, nostalgia, freshness, punch. 'So Much (For) Stardust’s main takeaway is the palpable, radiating carefree joy' (c) TheLineOfBestFit highlights: So Much (for) Stardust, The Kintsugi Kid (Ten Years), Heaven Iowa, Fake Out Quote 23 Ellie Goulding | Higher Than Heaven "You're the weakness I ain't over yet" Pretty strong mainstream pop record, there's nothing groundbreaking or spectacular, nothing boundary pushing, just a fun pop record. It feels mostly formulaic, there's a lot of filler-ish moments, some songs sound reductive, but it's very enjoyable listen, production is great, there's a lot of standouts and overall it works pretty well for her voice. '‘Higher Than Heaven’ may not be strictly personal, but it definitely sounds like an album crafted with care, skill and no small amount of flair (c) NME highlights: Higher Than Heaven, Midnight Dreams, How Long, Intuition, Tastes Like You T O P 1 5 0 S I N G L E S Quote 78 Janelle Monáe | Champagne **** "I used to pray about taking vacations" A standout from album, practically one of the most showcasing track from it, reaffirming album's theme. Quote 77 Beyoncé, Travis Scott | DELRESTO (ECHOES) "To see it in the day, you gotta free your soul" The way Bey stole the spotlight from Travis's track Production is insane! Really love the weirdness of it, it's like Yeezus meet Renaissance. Quote 76 Amaarae | Co-Star "I need some air" A MAJOR BAWP, I feel like there's some crack in it. 'Co-Star, Amaarae's most recent single, is a heavenly beauty that displays the singer's unquestionable talent and distinctive tone' (c) Yourstru Quote 75 Kelela | Enough for Love "I need a tougher love" Perfect groove love song, it's so ethereal and ...watery. Gorgeous slow-burn track. Quote 74 Lana Del Rey | Say Yes to Heaven "Let the fear you have fall away" I'm so happy artists releasing more and more vault tracks (practically the only thing I love about tiktok ). Lana is the queen of unreleased material, and honestly she should've just put entire vault on streaming Quote 73 Paramore | The News "I've got war right behind my eyes" This is why.mp3 I don't read the news.mp3 for almost 2 years already Quote 72 Dua Lipa | Dance the Night "My outfit so tight, you can see my heartbeat tonight" I still think it's kinda overrated Like, it's pure pop bop, but it's basically continuation of 'Future Nostalgia' and I kinda got tired of it already. Quote 71 Doja Cat | Agora Hills "'Cause love is pain but I need this ****" Whew, this is a VIBE. Really love how different it is from the rest of her catalogue. Both sensual and agressive, fun and sexy. Quote 70 Carly Rae Jepsen | Talking to Yourself "Are you thinking of me when you're with somebody else?" The instanly catchy banger, which produced by the people behind Cut To The Feeling and Now That I Found You It's practically the pop at its best. Thrilling, synthy, sonically speaking, loud, fun, playful. Quote 69 Kylie Minogue, Oliver Heldens | 10 Out Of 10 "Body - ten, touch - ten, energy - ten" It's cute and fun harmless teaser for Tension - could've been better, but it's a nice banger. Quote 68 Caroline Polachek | Blood and Butter "Let me dive through your face to the sweetest kind of pain" This is so dreamy and ethereal, probably the best track to showcase intergrity of 'Desire' album, great incorporation of 00s pop with art pop and Kate Bush' inspiration. Quote 67 Christine and the Queens | Tears can be so soft "I miss my friends and the tenderness, they give me cold hard looks now" This is so heartbreaking, tender and kinda fragile.. I love Portishead inspiration on this one.

ATRL Moderator Legend E Posted January 1 ATRL Moderator Posted January 1 See, I really don't get how chemistry is generic with songs like Skip This Part, Chemistry, Magic or Lighthouse on it. But whatever, happy that it's here Red Moon In Venus and Higher Than Heaven Enough for Love So happy Say Yes To Heaven is officially released! Dance The Night Talking To Yourself is amazing! so happy to see 10 out of 10 too 1
TheWayWeWere Posted January 3 Author Posted January 3 finally I'm not that drunk anymore, so I can finish my lists couple more updates after today's and I'm done T O P 5 0 A L B U M S Quote 22 Mitski | The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We "You believe me like a god, I'll betray you like a man" I still don't understand the hate for 'Laurel Hell', but I also can understand why 'The Land' easily tops it. The standouts from Laurel hits harder, they're more rememberable and interesting, but 'The Land' has more consistency, quality, emotions, rawness. It feels like a great combination of her early sound with more mainstream appeal. And I also love how nature-driven this album is - the sounds of wild animals, the sea, the wind - kinda reminds of Bjork at her best. 'The album is truly extraordinary – it is a once-in-a-career masterpiece that synthesises difference through abstracted self-observation. It is a vehicle for making meaning, an invitation to try again' (c) TheSkinny highlights: I Love Me After You, I'm Your Man, I Don't Like My Mind, The Deal Quote 21 Róisín Murphy | Hit Parade "What does it mean to have a free will?" She's a terf, she's questionable and etc etc etc, but this woman still can deliever quality music more than 20 years into career. I hate that one of her best projects to date got compelety overshadowed by her ill comments. This collaboration with DJ Koze is uplifting and affirming listen, which is pretty rare for her music, it's abstract, it's weird, it's fun, it's inventive. 'If Hit Parade isn’t Murphy’s best album, it’s certainly her wildest and weirdest' (c) SlantMagazine. highlights: The House, Milf Funk, Free Will, Hurtz So Bad Quote 20 Sugababes | The Lost Tapes "Who knew moving on could feel so free?" I honestly can't believe this was finally released I mean, it's been 10 years (Sky Ferreira better take a note ). Of course I listened to it since the l3aks, but it was such a great experience to buy it officially, it was interesting to hear some new touches and changes through the tracks. This line-up must be my favorite, their voices blend together like honey, their music choices are great, so it feels like a crime to save this record in a vault for all those years. Brilliant pop record that deserved a lot more attention and actual release years and years ago, even tho it still sounds so fresh. highlights: Love Me Hard, Summer of '99, No Regrets, I'm Alright, Beat Is Gone Quote 19 Chlöe | In Pieces "Boy, how you be so sweet and be this mean to me?" I certainly don't get the hate this girl get I mean, yeah, she makes a lot of cringe content, she butchered her career, Chloe x Halle's music was much better, but it's still a solid r&b record. Not a lot of standouts, but it's consistent, it's beautiful and shining, the production is solid and fresh, her vocal performance is great, and it's overall such a grower. 'Though freer than the critically acclaimed Ungodly Hour, it is also less focused. Her performance rises to greater heights, but her music doesn’t always rise with her. Still, it is a work laden with potential (c) BPM highlights: Pray It Away, Body Do, Feel Me Cry, Looze U Quote 18 Kesha | Gag Order "What if none of this happened?" This album is raw, weird, vulnerable, pretty interesting listen from head to toe. It's full of unexpected tropes, crafty lyrics, production is mostly stripped back to highlights the words she sings to. Maybe not my favorite record by her, but definitely one of her most genuine and mature one. 'Never has Kesha's music felt this inspiringly rich. It has all the potential of once again making her a staple on the music scene, and this time even beyond pop' (c) TheLineOfBestFit highlights: Happy, Something To Believe In, The Drama, Peace & Quiet, Hate Me Harder Quote 17 Taylor Swift | 1989 (Taylor's Version) "You were so magnetic it was almost obnoxious" Well, Idk what to say about this re-recording, of course it's still pop perfection, it's still the classic pop sounds she comes with almost ten years ago, the songs are still bawps, it's still fresh and memorable.. but I think I expected much more from it? I don't really a fan of new production, especially on the singles, and I really wanted more punch and energy from her on this record. The duds of the original got upgraded, which is good tho. Another problem for me - the fact that I just don't believe those vault tracks were written in 2014 - most of them feels like Midnights outtakes, which doesn't feels right to me tbh. highlights: Say Don't Go, Suburban Legends, Bad Blood (TV), New Romantics (TV) T O P 1 5 0 S I N G L E S Quote 66 Taylor Swift | Cruel Summer '"I love you, " ain't that the worst thing you ever heard?' I was always suprised how this was never released as a single from Lover, especially considering it's her worst singles run ever (except the title track). But I'm also surprised how BIG it became Quote 65 Mylène Farmer | Rallumer les étoiles "Nul regret du passé" Honestly one of her most innovative and interesting songs in years. Both cheerful and dark, incredibly produced bop. Quote 64 Paramore | Running Out of Time "I'm throwin' another die or hopin' to nullify" I still think the album tracks eats most of the singles up, but this one is pretty great - chorus is extremely addictive and catchy, and that scream before it - whew! Quote 63 Mitski | Heaven "Can we stay a while and listen for heaven?" My favorite of the double a-side single, 'Heaven is a tableaux of domestic bliss in which Mitski becomes one with the environment, comparing herself to murmuring brooks and bending willows as she luxuriates in private moments with her lover' (c) Pitchfork Quote 62 Chlöe, Chris Brown | How Does It Feel "It shouldn't hurt me, but I let it" Nnnn, drag me I hate that she decided to collaborate with this man...especially since he doesn't add anything to the song...but this is pretty great breezy r&b jam, nothing special, but very loveable. Quote 61 Kelela | On the Run "Nothin' in this world could stop us right now" 'Song ... borrows all the most affecting bits of Caribbean dance and the pulsating atmospherics of R&B' (c) GrimyGoods. Quote 60 Sugababes | When the Rain Comes "But who's gon' be here when the party's done?" Nice little teaser of the upcoming record. '..an absolute triumph. It captures that impossible-to-describe Sugababes magic, feeling instantly like it’s always existed in their catalogue, like it’s always been there nestled between their biggest hits' (c) RevampMagazine. Quote 59 Jessie Ware, Róisín Murphy | Freak Me Now "Let me know if you want that oochie-coochie or that in between" This was already one of my faves from album, but this collab kinda makes it even better Such a fun collaboration between two modern disco queens. A collab I never knew I needed in my life. Quote 58 Birdy | Paradise Calling "If you could only feel our love" Her 'Blinding Lights' 'Paradise Calling pulses with energising creativity, anticipation and unbridled joy' (c) ClashMusic Quote 57 Bree Runway, Khalid | Be The One "Should I lay down and die without you by my side?" I know this wasn't liked by many of her fans, it's too mainstream and etc etc, but it's also a major relaxing jam, kinda in the vein of Doja Cat. Quote 56 Kesha | Eat the Acid "Don't ever eat the acid if you don't wanna be changed like it changed me" It's so intereseting and experimental, I don't get into it at first, but it grew on me over the time. Really powerful and delicate, intersting sound for her catalogue. 'Eat The Acid felt like paranoia fuel, and It’s such an unexpected turn for Kesha, and overall a truly unique listening experience and surprise' (c) BruhMan Quote 55 Birdy | Heartbreaker "Illusions only last for so long" Pop perfection, little dreamy chamber pop track with sober and moving lyric wrapped in a deceptive, power pop production. Quote 54 Fall Out Boy | Heartbreak Feels So Good "We said we'd never grow up" Great jam, very impressive to hear them so energetic. I feel like this is the sound they should've followed post-hiatus. Quote 53 Miley Cyrus | Used to Be Young "You say I used to be wild, I say I used to be young" Hmm.. with all the hype and promotion, I kinda expected something different and even for a ballad - with a little more punch? It's beautiful, I love the message, but it's also one of her weakest ballad singles. Quote 52 Rita Ora | Don't Think Twice "Am I drunk or am I dreamin'?" Such a great banger, really love the strings in the instrumental. Should've been a hit for her. Quote 51 Calvin Harris, Ellie Goulding | Miracle "Are you too cynical to believe in a miracle?" Even tho I love eurotrance infulence on this, I still think this should've had much bigger drop. 'This track is shameless. It's basically an old-school hands-in-the-air trance anthem. The chorus is big, and the early-'00s keyboard bloops are bigger' (c) Stereogum. Quote 50 Anne-Marie, Shania Twain | UNHEALTHY "Your love is worse than cigarettes" THE best song from album, very cute and fun bop, and how good Shania sounds here with Anne Quote 49 Mitski | Bug Like an Angel "Did you go and make promises you can't keep?" I'm mesmerized, probably one of her best songs ever. It's so gently and compelling and I really love how it grows over the lenght of the song. 'The song...just might become a go-to warm blanket for times of loneliness. It’s an understated note to launch an album cycle on, but it’s also an introduction that’s beautiful, welcoming, and up to the high standards the songwriter has set for herself' (c) Consequence Quote 48 Aly & AJ | Blue Dress "I don't care who you've been kissing 'cause I've been doing some kissing, too" It's freaking stunning. '..a fuzzy, dreamy ballad with the sleepy drawl of pedal steel and harmonies as delicate as dandelion spores' (c) NylonMagazine Quote 47 Christine and the Queens | To be honest "I am trying to love but I'm afraid to kill" Very striking and one of the best songs by him yet, production is immaculate. High-drama song with heavenly production. 'The song...is a beautiful and unflinching reflection on the past few years for Christine' (c) ForYourConsideration Quote 46 Kesha | Only Love Can Save Us Now "I'm 'bout to blow your ******* head through the ceiling" This is amazing, feels like a future classic by her. I really love the combination of weird agressive verses and cheerful uplifting chorus. Quote 45 Kali Uchis | Moonlight "I just wanna get high with my lover" Shhh it's so hot and sultry 'More sex appeal in this one song than the entirety of france' (c) padgoose Quote 44 Kelly Clarkson | mine "Go ahead and break my heart, that's fine" Wow this is freaking amazing, her vocal performance gave me goosebumps here. The emotions are so powerful Quote 43 Chlöe, Future | Cheatback "The dick was good, it blinded me" Idc, but this is a JAM. Guitar instrumental sounds heavenly here. Future is not really needed on it, but he doesn't make this song worse. Probably my favorite track from album. Quote 42 Olivia Rodrigo | bad idea right? "I know that he's my ex, but can't two people reconnect?" It sounds like early 00s romcom soundtrack in every good way possible This song is both annoying and fun and catchy at the same time, Idk how she's done it Really love the weird structure of it. Quote 41 Kelela | Contact "You're stressing, that's not allowed" Gosh drum'n'bass influence is so good for her voice Beat is amazing, really suits for a sexy and lusty song like that. Quote 40 Troye Sivan | One of Your Girls "Face card, no cash, no credit" THAT music video he's genius for that. Song is also very groove and intimate, such a fresh sound for a pop boy. Quote 39 SZA | Shirt "Can't cry about the **** that I can't change" I honestly can't believe how we waited for this song for over a year But it was worth the wait in the end. It's so addictive and watery, kidna too simplistic for her, but her voice + lyrical topics are so suitable for it. Such a grower.
