I remember when her character was killed off on Person of Interest because the lead actor refused to have an interracial relationship on screen :rip:

How much is the budget for the new movie? You’d think Oprah would push for good pay for them but I guess not.

SAY IT LOUDER, TARAJI!

I feel like I remember her kind of talking about this before this press tour, but she is laying it all out there this time around and I'm here for it.

I can't believe her team fumbled the bag while Empire was hot.

Love Taraji, she's an absolute talent and I'm glad she's being vocal about this because everybody knows it but nobody says anything. She deserves her flowers, from Hidden Figures to Empire. You wouldn't see a white male actor with similar success having these issues. I really hope her next few roles she'll see a different in terms of pay and respect.

She deserves the world.

Crazy, especially since she's an established talent!

Wow this is really sad tbh. But Hollywood is becoming more and more irrelevant... Gen Z doesn't even know most actors or actresses today. I feel like Influencers have completely taken their thunder. I remember listening to a podcast and an influencer in LA was saying how hated they are in Hollywood because actors feel like they've stolen their thunder (and endorsement deals and other opportunities). Every year when the Oscars air I'm like um... who tf is this person and what movie is this? And this is from someone who has followed celebrity gossip and had a weekly subscription to Us Weekly and People Magazine and read TMZ and X17 everyday for YEARS. No one cares anymore about Hollywood because it's a circle jerk popularity contest. If you go on TikTok you realize how most people have tuned it out and just don't care anymore, they follow Twitch streamers, etc.

Seeing this explains why, Hollywood has done POC and women dirty for sooooooooo long... what you put out is what you get back...

I mean, I don’t think “influencer” culture has been any kinder to POC

well racism (and sexism) is institutional and structural so to some degree unfortunately it's always going to be prevalent no matter the industry you're in but in terms of influencers there are less gatekeepers. Part of the problem with Hollywood and actors/actresses specifically is there are still gatekeepers and old out-of-touch billionaire execs (who determine literally how much you will get paid, if you will or won't get hired, etc) who are part of the problem in terms of what Taraji is complaining about.

Considering hes now doing right wing conspiracies and doing movies like Sound of Freedom, this is not surprising and Taraj won out of the two of them.

I appreciate this. She is an Oscar nominated actor. She deserves more and better.

Is this true because I don’t actually see anything about this :suburban:

Okay but when Monique said this years ago people gave her the side eye and treated her like trash (and we know why).

Black women are often undervalued and underpaid. Pay them equitably.

“70-80% of GROSS income is gone off top for taxes & commissions (agents, managers, lawyers),” Thede wrote. “And for those who pay other employees as well? Babyyyy! The math ain’t math-ing! And I know – you’re like $10M minus $8M is still $2M…Yes that’s true. However, $10M is VERY RARE! Most of your fave Black actresses make about $250k-$500k for STARRING in movies (so $50-$100k net) and might only get ONE project a year.”

Having to deal with this 20 years into your career when most of your peers getting pay rises after pay rises. Must take a damn toll on your mental health. I understand why she’s tired. Having to still “fake it” for these executives and producers to just get the minimum

Hopefully she got at least $500,000+ for the Color Purple..especially with Oprah as producers…otherwise that’s ******

Yes, that's so hard to hear and listen to. How can she have no raise in income when she's so known and had a big break?

Monique was also talking about it. It's crazy.

Black women have to fight so hard and their success is always diminished. And I like how she said that they act like it was a fluke or something. You start right back at zero.

And THAT is sth ALL the POC are facing in the entertainment business and THAT is something the gays in here DO NOT comprehend.

The amount of times you hear ignorant people saying "but you have successful Black artists, they have the same chance" - NO THEY DONT. They have to work triple as hard to get a third of what white people get. But yas white artists "saving the economy". **** this

all industry has it`s demon

but film industry is different with music industry

i`m not saying there`s no hard ship in music industry for POC, but its not compare to the movie industry, POC roles are rarer.
