Also, Plastic Hearts' stats and longevity are really good for how mismanaged it was? The album coupled with her festivals run, plenty of interviews where she came off as mature and likable, and all those covers/performances of beloved classics gave her career a new life and did a lot for her image. It was a step in the right direction and definitely laid the groundwork for Flowers. Makes me wonder how big PH would have been under a different label.

No. Flowers smashed, ESV didn't. Take out the lead single from both ESV and PH and PH is much, much more succesful.

it was shaping up to be the biggest album of the year tbh but the material wasn't totally there

Nobody was expecting her to do any numbers and she ended up with the biggest song in 2023.

A few thoughts here... firstly, the album was definitely a "roaring" success for Miley in it's own way.

 

It is her most successful era since 2013 IIRC.  Flowers is a part of the ESV album, so I am not following the "[all of the] music is mid" comments when it holds one of the biggest songs in recent memory. And one of the best pop songs in 2023 with Violet Chemistry. The girls need to accept that she has moved on from the "Plastic Hearts" era. Why would she make the same album twice? Just for people to still complain?

 

People mainly wrote off the album for it's debut numbers versus its quality. Surely the era could've reached *even* greater thresholds but a smash #1 single and earning her most critically acclaimed album yet is not bombing.

Thread title is a set-up but omg yall took a mid-decently successful album and made Miley look like she just flopped as hard as Sam Smith or Lizzo. 

 

I get it, Flowers is bigger than some of your faves’ recent songs and you’re coping by making the album look like a bigger flop than it is. But it is a pretty good album and it did pretty well for Miley.

It did not outstream PH and it will fall behind it in daily streams in the up comming months.

It's complicated. I think the album in general performed on the same level as PH

But having a big smash hit with the GP is always better. Flowers will bring her money for years to come

yeah it's weird how they try to paint her as a flop, it's not like the album pulled a Younger Now or Can't Be Tamed

the album did good overall boosted by Flowers and U2BY kinda did ok too

music wise, I think time def made me like it more and there are some gems on it, I think people also didn't like the fact she kinda ghosted the whole planet despite repeaking in terms of singles

#1 in multiple countries

 

A year-end top 50 album for her - her first since Bangerz

 

Her biggest era in Germany - Bangerz didn't make the year-end charts there

It has the iconic LGBTi anthem River. So, yes. She won  A very classy and chill album. Like California


 

She burned her reputation and respect down with Bangerz-Dead Petz and Younger Now..........

but PLASTIC HEARTS-ENDLESS SUMMER VACATION helped to Rehabilitate her Image and Creed 
Now she really feels like an Artist. Like a Pop Girl who has evolved and is not trying too hard like the past.....
Cant wait for her next album. Hope she hits lightning with the next one too.

A little correction: it debuted with 119k, the album is charting 40+ weeks and Plastic Hearts charted for 30+ weeks too

It's not a setup, it's very clearly stated that "it's a roaring success FOR MILEY"

 

People need to learn that an artist can be considered a success even if they are not pulling Taylor or Adele numbers

Though she was also clever using the media coverage of her divorce to successfully launch Flowers.

I know that wasn't your intention at all, but we both know ATRL is eager to jump on this album and call it a Sam Smith sized flop. 

 

But I completely agree with your point! ESV was a successful era for Miley without a doubt. She's finally back in the GP's good graces. Streaming resurgence, Grammy noms, Billboard album bomb, TikTok viral moments... her comeback arc continues to grow and I'm so excited to see what comes next for her
