I don’t really think anyone who didn’t pay for a ticket should be able to take the seat from someone who did pay for their ticket, regardless of their size

Bit of a poor move to read the salacious headline and not the body of the story - nor the airline's policy - detailing how most of the customers in question do in fact buy two seats and the accommodations is just that the airline will refund the cost of the 2nd seat. 

 

Edit - The video is from an account with a single video with the handle @dontflysouthwest, with this video posted back in June. 

The policy states that they aren't required to buy two seats ahead of time, they are encouraged to purchase two seats and get one refunded however they can ask for extra seats at the departure gate, which is what probably happened here. Poor planning on the person of size and IMO the policy shouldn't allow for last minute gate departures if they haven't pre-purchased tickets.

Why has modern activism (not just related to this issue) evolved into not just wanting to be treated equally and fairly, but to be treated BETTER than everyone else? No wonder the backlash has been quick and will probably wind up causing fat people to be even LESS accepted in society.

The airline was obviously scared of backlash if they dropped the person of size instead. 

 

That's stupid af. 

 

Should've gave her business/first class ticket on the next flight or something.

It's an unfortunate circumstance, especially when traveling for the holidays. This should have been handled a lot better than it was.
