Giving Camila fans saying she won a Grammy when she won a Latin Grammy. The Latin Grammys is still a new-ish award show. But still by recording academy, not by Billboard MTV Nickelodeon AMA etc 1 3
Katamari Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 Congrats to him awardless weirdos trying to come for his Emmy 1

fridayteenage Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 feels like more of an achievement than that category Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Musical Performance in a Daytime Program, which only lasted a few years. Ben Platt won for going on the today show one time also Rachel Platten for going on good morning america one time

Sergi91 Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 Some of you are so pathetic for discrediting the Children EMMYS & Latin Grammys. 1 1 1

Robert Lopez's Children's and Family EMMY is listed amongst his EGOT awards as well. I think if it's an EMMY at all, it's eligible. They’re asterisked or even discounted by most. https://www.thrillist.com/entertainment/nation/egot-philip-michael-thomas-interview

Per Los Angeles Times, which is a much more well-respected platform than Thrillist, she is an EGOT title holder. An Emmy is an EMMY. We don't go around calling the Primetime Emmy winners "Primetime Emmy winner." But when it's Daytime (or even Children's), people feel the need to call out the difference. It's bulls**t and insulting. Edited December 17, 2023 by livelikemusic 2 1

It's bulls**t and insulting. It’s not per Thrillist, but an interview with a man who coined the term. People have tried to broaden it, primarily to make way for their favorite artists, but the distinction itself originated with a limited scope. It’s debated quite often. One that is less split - the Latin Grammys are not Grammys. It’s an entirely different recording academy (and quite controversial at that). 1

Yet in the same interview: Quote A-ha, so it's fine for someone with a Daytime Emmy but not a Primetime Emmy to say, "I won an EGOT," because they do have an Emmy of some sort. I have no jurisdiction over any of that. He's right, he doesn't have jurisdiction. EGOTs are widely considered to encapsulate categories (and subsects) across each respective awarding body. Whoopi Goldberg is considered by most to have achieved the EGOT, as has Barbra Streisand. If we go by his definition, neither do. But you reach a point where one person's opinion, regardless of whether they created it or not, does not outweigh the opinion of the masses. People will continue to debate this for many years, I'm sure. But until some 'official' rule is implemented, this EMMY would be counted. 2
fridayteenage Posted December 17, 2023 Posted December 17, 2023 i mean, the egot is a made up thing. the term was created in the 80s by a guy most people haven't heard of

They were made after the Primetime discontinued their Children’s Series category in 2022 and several YA series (Dash & Lily, Baby Sitters Club etc) swept the Daytime awards in 2021, Daytime members of NATAS complained about their field being stolen and that’s how these were created.
