This such a bad look on all of us cause they going to be thinking this is our norm.

Homophobes that hate us already think this about that. Why do y’all care? They’re not suddenly going to think that because of this incident. They’ve been trying to dehumanize us and slash our rights with a lot of energy in the past year or so. If anything they’ll use this as fodder to attack the Democratic Party.

Some of you internalized Republican messaging instead of rejecting it. Being gay is not some excuse to be a freak in public

Do this **** at your house, not your job. that’s the only thing you need to be doing :toofunny2:

How are people laughing, is this not pure degeneracy? Anytime I open social and see gay men posted on popular accounts (outside of gay circles), the comments are flooded with homophobia and vitriol. Doing weird sh*t like this in the current political climate is only going to push more toxic narrative about gay people being sex-crazed perverts, and the fact that there’s a good chance the next president will be a Republican will make that climate even worse.

And in before the “they don’t need to see us act like this, they’ll think that regardless comments” I am very aware that homophobes are depraved people, but **** like this doesn’t exactly help to paint a healthy and civil image of gay men; both in America, where homophobia is on the rise, and on the world stage where they just wait for the opportunity to spew hatred.

**** your “healthy and civil” image tbqh. They don’t like you anyways, sissy

I promise, this is not something anyone will talk about in 2 days. :toofunny2: The economy is hell, there are two ongoing wars, and you think a sex scandal involving a political intern and no politician (that we know of) is going to make a lasting impression?

Regardless, you cannot obsess over how the action of one person in the community is going to “validate” bigotry. Bigotry will always exist. We just have to push back and call it out. You acting as if there is some legitimacy to them conflating this one gay guy to all of us is actually unhelpful and only emboldens them.

If you point out, yeah, what he did was irresponsible and it’s just one random gay guy and doesn’t represent the community at large, you’re better off.

As a member of this community I will continue calling out these type of actions. They are not cute and they should be condemned. If you wanna look the other way or pretend like they have no effect on us that’s on you. Good day.

A couple of reckless men f-cking in a “sacred” (using that term very loosely) space will not threaten any gay movements or your ability to assimilate. Feel free to criticize their behavior—I think it’s tacky too—but be so for real. Everyone is preoccupied with more pressing issues in their lives than a sex scandal in a place where far more depraved shite happens daily.

Doesnt this just prove republicans and the right all the things they say about gays? This is not a good look. They’ll just use this as proof gays are sexual deviants.

And while they do it, they'll conveniently forget that the majority of gays and pedos exposed on capitol hill are Republicans :gaycat5:

What in the world? :psyduck: What ''republican messaging'' did I internalize exactly?

Republicans think we’re perverts and so it’s subversive to just… make spectacles of ourselves? Prove them right?

They’ll just say that is fake news. The right will be vicious, using this every chance they get. While the left will just fight among themselves.

Okay, first: republicans don't think. They merely use language and rhetoric to whip up fear and chaos amongst people in order to further their political goals.

Second, this was one (or rather two, I guess) person, so not sure about your usage of ''ourselves'' in that phrase. Maybe you're the one falling for right wing rhetoric in taking one individual's actions as representative of a larger group?

And thirdly, no one was harmed in the process (as far as I know at least). Why make such a big deal out of this? Sounds like reactionary ''logic''.

And finally, yes, performing sex between men in such a conservative space such as the US congress is pretty subversive if you ask me. Why is that a bad thing anyway? Again, no one was even there and there were no people harmed... I mean we know about it now, but so what? You know the state and the government at large have no intention of cracking down on homophobia and are largely comprised of homophobes in fact, right? Why do you care what they think?
