What are we supposed to do about it though? I can't stop people being homophobic any more than I can stop random people having sex. I don't think the actions of other gay men represent me. If someone else feels differently and wants to characterise us by the actions of a small portion of our community then so be it.

Gay people are not responsible for homophobes being homophobic. It is a terrible argument to say us existing is setting back the gay rights movement. You can criticize the behavior without guilting this person and other gay men’s sexuality being the reason we elicit oppression. Let’s be serious.
