I think it was probably posted in multiple places.  He totally wanted people to see it, but I don't think he anticipated that someone would rat him out and go to the press.

People who do this definitely want to be seen.  They want to have their cake and eat it too.  Most of the time it starts off small, but then they continue to push the limits to see how far they can go.  Eventually, it all comes crashing down.
