Bad News Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 Quote We realize many of you have been anticipating news around the project that we’ve been calling The Last of Us Online. There’s no easy way to say this: We’ve made the incredibly difficult decision to stop development on that game. Quote In ramping up to full production, the massive scope of our ambition became clear. To release and support The Last of Us Online we’d have to put all our studio resources behind supporting post launch content for years to come, severely impacting development on future single-player games. So, we had two paths in front of us: become a solely live service games studio or continue to focus on single-player narrative games that have defined Naughty Dog’s heritage. x
geddymonster Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 Multiplayer games are overrated and a money pit. Quality single player games >>>>>> 3 11

ATRL Moderator Bloo Posted December 15, 2023 ATRL Moderator Posted December 15, 2023 Thank god. Multiplayer games are overrated and overdone. Glad they’re sticking to where they shine and hopefully whatever they were developing for the online game can be used as a starting point for the TLOU3 so that time and money isn’t completely wasted. 4
Bubble Tea Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 No one wanted a big online bonanza, literally no one, we just wanted a version of Factions 2, an updated game like the original The Last of Us multiplayer, still a beloved and popular game to this game. Mess that we've been waiting so many years for this announcement. 2

This is a kii.. this is basically them telling Sony to go **** themselves if they want ND to make live service games 1
Billionaire Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 They knew they had to transfer it's resources to TLOU 1 Remake: The Re-Up
El Chico Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 I don’t think y’all realize the effort it takes to release a remake of a remaster Jokes aside I saw this coming especially with their delay after they brought in Bungie to check out the game. They must of realized they were way over their league. Not everything has to be a live service
poki Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 focus on single-player narrative games that have defined Naughty Dog’s heritage. What heritage? y'all motherfuckers abandoned Crash and Jak, THAT'S your heritage. Last of Us, okay I'll give you that but what else you got? Generic male #9283859329 who's just a worse Lara Croft? Please. 2
Comedor Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 And they didn’t realize that until going into full production?
magazine Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 Well, seems like making multiplayer games is very hard

ImpressMeMuch Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 Good for naughty dog avoiding the multiplayer bug, hope this teaches Sony a lesson to not go all in on multiplayer like they were planning
Rence Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 Can they go back to making games other than TLOU though

Please. TLOU has sold more copies than any Crash Bandicoot or Jak game...same for Uncharted. Plus they are much more valuable IPs. No one checks for Naughty Dog because of Crash Bandicoot. That wasn't the game that catapulted them into the amazing studio they are currently. It was Uncharted 2.

Please. You spilled a little. TLOU is really their only series where the narrative is anything special. The plots of all the Uncharted games are borrowed from action films I think of devs like Santa Monica Studio, Monolith Soft, CD Projekt Red, Square Enix (despite a few duds) as consistently developing strong first-person narrative games before I think of Naughty Dog.
Phaunzie Posted December 15, 2023 Posted December 15, 2023 (edited) Use those funds to give us a new Uncharted. Edited December 15, 2023 by Phaunzie
