Coming in fourth place is a writer who had all of the power of the northern lights, but it still wasn't enough to impress the others at the North Pole.

❄️ Festive TwinkleFingers with a score of 8.33 for “WINTER'S GLEAM”. ❄️

This was my personal favourite of all the submissions, as I felt it was the most "Christmassy" and I felt a lot of joy reading it. If I had to guess, I would say you are @worldwide angel?

Coming in second place is a writer who received a score of 10 from one of the other elves! This was a lovely song that strongly showcased the emotions associated with the winter season.

Well done on scoring another smash hit after your Round 6 victory in Golden Hit: Season 5! Christmas or not, this was another really well-written offering from you regardless.

Congratulations!!! If I am not mistaken, this is your first #1 hit of the Golden Hit era? Perhaps a sign of things to come in Golden Hit: Season 6 next year!

You and Legend E both awarded each other a perfect score of 10, which was lovely to see that camaraderie. Your song really shone through this round.

With a score of 9, this also outscored every song last season, excluding fountain's Song of the Season, “Killer Whales of the Zombie Strain; "Cognisance"”.

 

 

 

Congratulations once again, and thanks to all who participated in Holiday Hit 2023! This was a fun experiment, even Jackson didn't know until after the GH5 finale.

I intended to start this event a lot earlier, but due to the various extensions during Rounds 4 and 5 of Golden Hit: Season 5, things got pushed back... by a lot. 

Perhaps we can try this again next year, ideally at the beginning of December (or even late November) with an extended submission/judging window. To 2024!

1. Blitz Brightnose - “Shoot Just To Shoot”
Hmm, this was an interesting one! I wouldn’t consider it a Christmas song in the traditional sense, more of a regular song set around Christmastime, similar to something from Taylor’s ‘evermore’ or the Imogen Heap song “Just For Now”. Not a negative, just not what I had in mind coming into these reviews! It’s definitely well-written and I’m sure it’ll serve you well, but wasn’t the nice bit of Chrismassy fluff I was looking forward to.

 

2. Festive TwinkleFingers - “WINTER'S GLEAM”
I honestly loved this, it was short and sweet, but was packed with a lot of Christmassy joy and optimism. Winter is often associated with negative feelings of coldness and isolation (I tried to subvert this a little in my own song too nn) but you really channeled the magic of the season and I loved it. It’s just a shame you didn’t submit your scores!

 

3. Cinnamon FairyToes - “The Last Wish”
OK already getting Puss in Boots teas from this title, which was cute. Similar to Blitz’s song, this wasn’t very Christmassy in the traditional jolly sense, but I did get what you were going for and it kind of reminded me of the nativity side of Christmas music, such as “We Three Kings”. I get what you were going for, and I kinda love it! Well done.

 

4. Junior Fairybum - “Something’s Feeling Different (This Christmas)”
The talentry, the servitude, the catchiness… OK yes this was my submission. I kinda sent this in as a last minute panic submission since we only had three entries, but I think it’s cute! It’s very much meant to give modern Christmas cheer vibes, a la Bonnie McKee’s “California Winter” or something alike. Came together in a few hours, so hope y’all liked it!

Shoot Just To Shoot: Is this fountain because it did give "**** Christmas" vibes. I was thinking of writing something like this but couldn't find the words to express myself.

 

Winter's Gleam: It's short, but definitely has a classy Christmas vibe. Cute.

 

The Last Wish: I think this strayed too far from the Christmas vibe.

 

Something's Felling Different: It's quirky, quite bold to send something with so much la-la-la. It definitely fits the Christmas vibe though!

Winter's Gleam

This is a very sweet song, and I could see it as something that is played on the radio. I enjoy the presence of the typical Christmas imagery. I wish you took a few more time to develop a sort of storyline. While it's a Xmas anthem, I think it sticks only on that and does not 'explore' too much. But it is overall a great song.

 

The Last Wish

I love the creativity that went behind this song. As a person who loves the "wish upon a star" imagery, I stan this hard. I also think that this fits the Xmas theme well, as for instance, it's what all children do. I like how the stars are sort of personified. The imagery of Sirius' being the brightest star and wishing that it does not live alone on the sky is lovely. Great great entry.

 

Something's Feelin Different

This has all the elements of a Christmas hit, especially with the structure of the song. I enjoy very much how introspective this entry is, as the memories of the past come back. The second verse is my favourite part in the song. I think this song also manages to stay on the positive side with the narrator finding themselves again. Nice song!

Oop, I guess it has been a year, hasn't it? Well I loved it, congrats on the well-deserved win. 

 

Currently eyeing a March 2024 launch for Golden Hit: Season 6... I think we need to allow y'all some time to breathe, and hopefully 3 months or so will be plenty of time to let the creative juices start flowing again!

 

Of course this is very tentative, it could be later depending on various factors. I am currently busily working away on another tournament idea which is very different from anything I've done before, or I believe ATRL has seen before! Done right, I hope it'll be really, really fun, so... keep your eyes peeled for more details regarding that in the new year.

I won't lie, I was rather surprised to see you reveal you had submitted something for this since you are usually so reserved with your submissions or even excerpts of your submissions being included in feedback. I think that alone is a huge step forward and I did notice that and think you should be so proud of yourself for taking the plunge!
