Wildcat Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 Susan Seidelman's cult classic "Desperately Seeking Susan" (1985), starring Rosanna Arquette and Madonna in her first major screen role, is one of the 25 influential films selected for preservation this year in the Library of Congress's National Film Registry, as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". Quote Desperately Seeking Susan was a commercial success and ended as the 31st highest grossing film of the year in the United States. The film received predominantly positive reviews, and both Arquette and Madonna's acting were critically acclaimed. Quote The film also shines as a historical snapshot, offering vignettes into parts of New York City that no longer exist, as well as glimpses into 80s fashion and music, especially Madonna’s personal style and her renowned dance single “Into the Groove.” The Queen Of Pop now has an album and two classic movies preserved for posterity in the U.S recording / film registry (A League of Their Own was inducted in 2012). https://www.phillyvoice.com/national-film-registry-movies-seidelman-desperately-seeking-susan/ 1 2

Psyduck Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 It's a time capsule into the 80s in New York, of course it deserves to be preserved

Mitsouko Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 It’s “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” because of Madonna and Madonna alone. Her cultural cache. That’s mother. 2 2

MALAMENTE Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 Deserved. I always used to think this movie was released when she was already years into her career but she filmed it relatively early. Impressive
LOTF Posted December 14, 2023 Posted December 14, 2023 I watched it recently for the first time and I liked it a lot
