The "asylum" system is abused to an extreme degree and the people who actually are genuinely seeking asylum are buried in cases of people using it as a excuse to enter the US without due means i.e. applying for a permanent visa. Everything needs law and order. Although realistically it would better to use that Ukraine aid to fund having a much higher headcount of Immigration judges. Shareholders saw immense profits this year thanks to state contracts with ICE and removing legal protections for asylum seekers will guarantee even more money for them. Meanwhile the Biden admin continues to posture to the masses for reform as this occurs before our very eyes. They are coming here not because of some new crises in Central or South America...but really because Biden is the president. That's the only reason. The numbers of crossings occurring are never unique individuals and is no greater than the level of migration that occurred in the 2000s. Such a spike only happening because the US has had the best pandemic economic recovery in the world (something you'd think Biden would try to emphasize). Expanding the capabilities of our immigration system to process these requests more efficiently is what is needed, not Trump-copycat rhetoric about the border.
