You have to be delusional to think Disney actually paid her $25 million to voice a minor role in a movie that was already guaranteed to be huge

taraji in the same article talked about how it's frustrating that she still has to audition.

Oprah was not the icon and media mogul we know today back when Spielberg was casting for the OG Color Purple. In fact, it was the success of the film and her turn in the role of Sofia that got her show picked up nationally in 1986. Up to that point, it was only aired in Chicago.

If this was for the role of Shug Avery, then I can kinda see what the studio was thinking but I'm glad it went to a more underrated singer.
