Apple will payola songs that use Dolby Atmos

The report says that Apple will “give added weighting to streams of songs” that are mixed in Dolby Atmos. The specific details here are somewhat unclear, but Bloomberg speculates that “added weighting” could mean “higher royalty payments for artists who are first to embrace” Dolby Atmos and spatial audio formats.

The overarching idea, however, is that Apple wants to encourage artists and labels not only to record new music in Dolby Atmos, but also update older tracks with Atmos mixing.

I don't understand how this is payola? From what I understand, it means they'll pay more for songs in Dolby Atmos.

It's not payola, they said they'll give benefits to artists/labels who take the effort to mix in Dolby Atmos

Listeners wouldn’t necessarily have to play the Atmos version of a song for artists to benefit. It only matters that the song is offered in that format.

I’d be fine with this but some of the Atmos mixes are so awful.

Odd. I get that Dolby Atmos is more work so they do deserve more money but some songs are claimed to be Dolby Atmos but sound no different :rip:

So that means Scooter will get even less money from the stolen versions’ streams (cuz those aren’t in dolby atmos). We won :clap3:Now i won’t feel that bad listening to the 1989 og Max Martin produced tracks (which are without a doubt so much better than the Chris Rowe botched garageband remakes
