Pitchfork: PF2 6.5 "mixed bag," "creative plateau," "hollow"

It’s an insult to Cardi to even bring her up in this thread when IOP has Grammys, multiple number 1 singles, acclaim, and sales. No matter which metric you use, the album was success.

Now back to Nicki’s P4K bomb… it will be interesting to see how the rest of the reviews pan out.

I don't even think this is that bad of a score, idk why people are pressed over it.

I agree the review reads more harsh than the actual score would suggest.

Nicki cannot and does not make albums. She puts out overstuffed and underbaked playlists with one third pop, one third r&b and one third rap and everyone picks and chooses which 4 songs they want to keep from the chaos. The one time she came close to cohesion was Queen and that's her highest P4K score even though she was on her hate train era and even though she made sure to fill that **** with DUDS. So I find nothing in this score for either her fans or her haters to react to.

Failed to garner her any fan base? How can you say that when she is the FEMALE rapper with the most #1 singles? Clearly the GP and HER fans bought/streamed those songs and took her to the TOP of the charts. I agree, Cardi NEEDS to release another album, her waiting so damn long is weird BUT she clearly had the GP and her fans taking her to the top with THAT ONE album (and droplets) and doing things that Nicki couldn't do with her FOUR previous albums at all. Let's not talk about flop singles when Nicki had a song stay on the charts for three weeks (from PF2) this year, lol.

You all kill me trying to ALWAYS discredit Cardi, I am not the biggest Nicki fan but at least I give her credit when it's due.

Flop singles? Are you using that term correctly? Did that flop Nicki single need a couple million dollar budget for a failed visual and forgotten performance? Only to have all promotion cease unceremoniously a week after?

Cardi was what we call "of the moment", or a "viral artist". No discernable artistic merit, a team behind her (who are failing rn) and relied on heavy tv gimmicks and/or features to get any kind of success. She had no real bars, production talent, I mean you knew this. Bringing her up in the same breath as Nicki Minaj is insanity to me...

Nicki is an artist who can release a mixtape and have it go #1 because of her talent. This is why you're in her threads. She is the goat to which all are compared or try to live up to. Look how everyone is dissecting her album, listening to it, still talking about it in a day and age where the album format is dead.

It's moreso embarrassing for Cardi to be honest. She has no material to even put a notch of a pitchfork into yet her few remaining fans cling to an album and artist the GP long forgot about and has no artistic fortitude to even release music for her small group of fans to indulge in. Truly sad in that camp.

Roman Holiday

Come On A Cone

I Am Your Leader

Beez In The Trap

HOV Lane

Roman Reloaded

The problem with Roman Reloaded is the mediocre pop songs in the second half that overstuff the album. The RAP tracks are all excellent, innovative, creative and funny in a way she hasn't been since. I like Ruby, but you can't say the same about almost any of the songs on PF2.

No, but I do love Come On A Cone and Beez

Yea sorry but no, for years everyone dragged the rap songs on RR for being mediocre. I love revisionist history. Pink Friday 2’s rap tracks eat and the pop songs are fun and campy

Sis what? Nicki is renowned because of her ability and talent to bridge the gap between pop and hip-hop worlds. It's quite literally meant to be easily accessible, thats the genius, we all know this...wtf are you talking about?

I'm talking about people in this thread and on twitter saying this reviewer doesn't know what she's talking about because they claim she's not the target demographic for Nicki's music. As you've said her music is easily accessible to the masses, you don't need to be an expert in hip hop to be able to give this album a critical review. I'm saying that writing a critical review of a Nicki Minaj album is well within the skillset of this reviewer.

It is not easily accessible to the masses, it is still hip-hop after all. The point is that she's been able to stop the stark contrast in communities by including pop in her repertoire. That being said I do not think reviewer Julliane is in line with the demo for an album like PF2 looking at her albums of the year/favorite new releases. :deadbanana4:

Given how subpar the album is I expected around a 5 or so. The album isn't actually bad. It is just extremely average, non-cohesive, same productions/lyrics we've heard before, some of her weaker material overall, and shows 0 artistic growth. If you like Nicki you will probably like it. If you want something new/exciting you probably are disappointed. Pitchfork in their commentary was spot on

Yes there are a few skips on RR but a most of the pop songs aren't trying to be high brow, they're just fun and unashamedly camp.  PF2 sounds like Queen 2.0 without the good bits.

The Starships - Pound The Alarm - Whip It run is iconic, but the next 4-5 songs are just dull. Super Bass was going for the same unpretentious, fun vibe and it's one of her best songs, so that's not an excuse.

I agree about Queen and PF2. In my opinion, Queen's strength was its consistence: not a lot of highlights but, outside of a few skips, all the tracks were solid. PF2 is the opposite: there are 3 or 4 great songs, but the rest is subpar.

The difference being Taylor actually has acclaimed albums to her name. Unfortunately Nicki's output seems to be antithetical to anything involving acclaim.

So, if Nicki is the GOAT why have NONE of her albums failed to even match IOP's weeks on the Billboard 200? We will see how Pink Friday 2 is doing in three-four months. Once again, all this talk about Nicki's TALENT, PRODUCTION, and PEN PUSHING and she still cannot get an album that is critically acclaimed (best new music) next to her name, I see why you girls are MAD and have to DISCREDIT the other girls.

CRAZY how the best 2 albums have the lowest scores :jonny2:

They gave Pink Friday a 6.5 and here we are 15 years later still reigning:alexz:

Sis, Nickis talent is very clear. If you really can't see that then you really need some stability in your life. PF2 will likely be doing fine as she is going on a World Tour, something a lot of our favs cannot do let alone have FIVE albums :eddie:

sis I'm not even gonna start on the acclaim sh*t other than you gotta be very strange in the brain to really think she is not one of the most acclaimed rappers of all time. And I'm talking about from people who actually make the music, who are actually in the industry, who actually work with her, and of course the black community. You know this.

Her discography is acclaimed, her highs are incredible, her bars are unmatched. She has verses alone in other people's songs that are more legendary than the song itself which is why to this day people still want a Nicki verse!

Sis. Wake up! What a sad state to dislike black excellence like Nicki Minaj and try and boss up for....Cardi B :hoetenks:
