I agree that Gaga has become a lot more vanilla than I ever expected, but some of you are way too harsh about it in this thread. 

 

It’s clear that she has been through the ringer in many ways, from the assault at the beginning of her career that she has unpacked through her music from TFM through the MTN music video and into songs on ARTPOP and Joanne, to struggles with substance abuse, to many in the industry trying to milk her dry at her peak only to leave her as soon as things went south, to the physical and mental toll 2008-2012 took on her body and mind. I’m happy she’s around and stable, even if it’s less “exciting,” rather than seeing her continue on the dark path she was clearly on at one point during ARTPOP. 

 

I did sort of a deep dive on rewatching interviews and performances from the from end of the BTWB through the ARTPOP era recently, and it’s obvious (with time and also just from my own adult perspective now) that she was not in a good place.
