2023 MLB Review

The 2023 MLB season had significant rules changes that took effect: no more infield shifts, pitch clock introduced (15 seconds with bases empty, 20 seconds with runner(s) on), bases will be increased by 3" (inches), and only two disengagements from the rubber per plate appearance for pitchers without penalty.

This year was when the RSN crisis really took hold, as Bally Sports lost the rights to the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres due to Diamond Sports Group's bankruptcy troubles. All of AT&T's RSNs closed down except for the one in Seattle, leaving the Houston Astros, Pittsburgh Pirates, and the Colorado Rockies to find new homes; with the Pirates and Astros taking up joint shares of new networks and the Rockies still waiting for a new home. The Seattle Mariners took 100% control of Root Sports Northwest.

This upcoming season will be the last season the A's play in Oakland, as they are set to relocate to Las Vegas.

This upcoming season will continue to have the RSN crisis unfold, especially with the Bally RSNs.

A couple of key rule changes will take effect for next year: mound visits will be cut to 4, the runners' lane on the first base side will be widened to include the fair ball side of the foul line. The pitch clock time is being further modified when runners on base, reduced to 18 from 20 seconds.

The Shohei Ohtani sweepstakes came to a conclusion: Ohtani stayed in the LA area, switching teams from the Angels to the Dodgers.

  • The Houston Astros clinched the AL West over the Texas Rangers by winning the head-to-head regular season series 9–4.
  • The Miami Marlins clinched the fifth seed over the Arizona Diamondbacks by winning the head-to-head regular season series 4–2, making the Marlins' suspended September 28 game against the New York Mets unnecessary to complete. That game was declared complete after eight innings as a 1–0 Mets victory

I've been following more women's football matches this year. I really like the Spanish national team specially Aitana Bonmati. Her play style reminds me of Andres Iniesta.

2023 NHL Review

The 2022-23 NHL season ended with Vegas winning their first ever Stanley Cup trophy.

This year was when the RSN crisis really took hold, as Bally Sports lost the rights to the Arizona Coyotes due to Diamond Sports Group's bankruptcy troubles. All of AT&T's RSNs closed down except for the one in Seattle, leaving the Vegas Golden Knights and Pittsburgh Penguins to find new homes. The Golden Knights went with a syndication model where Las Vegas's independent station KMCC is the lead station, while the Penguins took over the channel and renamed it SportsNet Pittsburgh. As for Bally Sports and the Coyotes, BS-AZ closed down, and that led to the team's broadcasting rights being syndicated with Phoenix's ABC affiliate KXNV's 2nd subchannel to be the lead syndicator (later independent KASW).
