Smooth Operator is really cute but I discovered Kiss of Life from Tiktok and wow :jonny5:

Capable of Love is a classic, wasn't a massive fan at first but it grew so much after the album came out

greedy and Psychedelic Switch are major bangers :clap3: Prada, Padam, Freak Me Now and River are cute too!

#14 "Greedy" Tate McRae

I still do not hear the Promiscuous inspiration, but the track is still magnificent on its own! So catchy, straight to the point, maybe TikTok music does make a few points with its length at time? I had really liked Tate from She's All I Wanna Be and I'm glad she's transitioning to becoming a full blown pop star.

immature and cheaply produced at times, but this song is SO RICH and SO MATURE it's honestly one of my biggest accidental discographies of the year.

#12 "Dance the Night" Dua Lipa

Who better than to create the perfect disco-bop for the biggest movie of the year?! Dua serves as she usually does with this song, and I'm happy she got to wrap up the incredible disco inspired sounds she has used the last few years with this release.

Pop hits, not my faves but undeniably earworms:clap3:

UPDATE #6 - Best Throwbacks #10-01

Changing up my schedule a bit, let's do the top 10 throwbacks today!

Best Throwbacks

#10 "Roll Over" Holly Valance (2003)

The State of Mind album was recommended to me by @madonnas earlier this year and I gravitated to this song the most out of all the amazing songs on the album. It has an almost Paula Abdul sound throughout but mixed with the Kylie Minogue styled pop the rest of the album is filled with. Such a great track!

#09 "Deceptacon" Le Tigre (1999)

A perfect mix of dance and punk, this song brought be back to style of music I listened to so much in high school where I pretended to be emo but couldn't listen to just emo music and had to find some songs in that genre with the dance-pop energy that every gay craves.

#08 "Every Way That I Can" Sertab Erener (2003)

After Eurovision each year, I tend to go back and watch older Eurovisions and this year I stumbled across 2002's contest which might end up being my favorite Eurovision of all time. Not only were we served with a great top 3 that were so close in points, with t.A.T.u.'s antics placing them 3rd and a fantastic Belgium entry that sounds like a Cirque du Soleil soundtrack mixed with Deep Forest's Sweet Lullaby placing 2nd. However, this song was easily my fave out of the bunch, giving us main pop girl energy, the Middle Eastern sound that was incredibly popular at the time. Sertab's victory completely changed the direction Eurovision would go in the future, focusing on more mainstream pop songs and we thank her for that!

#07 "Do You Miss Me?" Jocelyn Enriquez (1997)

This was the year of freestyle for me, discovering so many classics by Collage, Buffy, Debbie Deb, Angelina, and Malyssa to name a few. However, this track by queen Jocelyn eclipsed them all as my favorite freestyle song of the year. Jocelyn has always been defined to me by A Little Bit of Ecstasy, but this track matches that quality and then gives us even more.

#06 "I Wanna Be U" Chocolate Puma (2000)

As an Apple Music user, sometimes it's hard finding similar songs to listen to from your listening history. So this year, I started using this website to help me find some new music and after plugging in a few tracks from my Y2K playlist I stumbled across this house masterpiece. The chanting chorus and the instant energy were immediate appeals to me, and this song ends up as the highest ranked male vocal track on my throwback countdown!

#05 "Kiss Kiss" Holly Valance (2002)

Having been first introduced to Holly with the State of Mind album, I worked backwards and found this classic. It is strikingly similar to Sertab's Every Way That I Can due to the sample of a Turkish song used in Kiss Kiss, but both tracks scratched that itch I needed this summer and I found them to be interchangeable while listening all summer. Why choose one classic when you can have two?!

#04 "Touch Me" Rui Da Silva & Cassandra (2000)

Some of the first electronic music I ever listened to was early Tiesto trance and 4 Strings and this song gives me the same vibes as those tracks did to me when growing up. It's such a sentimental sound for me and I know it's out of the box to feel this way but when I first discovered this song this year it almost made me emotional how nostalgic it was for me.

#03 "Irresistible" Jessica Simpson (2001)

Successica Legendson's greatest track, a pop song that rivals the excellence of Britney and Xtina at the time and a song that deserved all the same success those two artists received. I know Jessica deserved to have a career more focused on how fantastic her vocals were and that matched the quality of her first album, but this song is SOO good it's hard to complain about her label wanting her to be a Britney clone. They made some points!

#02 "Superstar" Jamelia (2003)

Fueled by the interest into discovering early 00s pop tracks this summer, I stumbled across this classic and it instantly became a fave of mine. It created a deep dive into Top of the Pops performances which I was able to watch so many on YouTube the day before they were all seemingly deleted due to copyright.

#01 "Some Girls" Rachel Stevens (2003)

What can I say? This song pretty much took over my life this year when I found it at the beginning of summer. This song has jumped to my #4 most played song of all time, eclipsing past faves such as Sweet but Psycho and Levitating. It's also my #1 most played song of the year, with almost 100 plays over second place. It just really gave me the perfect mix of throwback pop energy with a Goldfrapp-esque beat, and had so much replay value for me.

FMN, DTN and River :clap3: but FMN without Roisin is better than the one with her. Capable of Love is actually nice, in spite of my PP hatred.

Hope you get to discover Sade's discography even more, it's absolutely stunning

I love the Promise album after picking it up at the record store one day but I definitely need to get into more of Sade's work!

4 of my 10 favorite throwback songs of the year came from 2003. Imagine if I was a full fledged pop music stan as I am now back then, it would have been the never-ending year of collapses :jonny3:

Jamelia :jonny: I used to love her so much, I can't believe it's been almost 20 years since her last release :deadbanana4:

Holly is so underrated!!! State of Mind is a masterpiece, but I love both of her albums :alexz:
