UPDATE #1 - Best Songs of 2023 (#50-#41)

#50 "Planet of the Bass" DJ Crazy Times & Ms Biljana Electronica

Starting off the list is the Planet of the Bass, a campy spoof of late 90s Eurodance music that gives me the energy of past Mr. President and La Bouche songs. It makes the list due to how clever it is, and how fantastic Kyle Gordon did the lead-up to the songs release after it achieved viral fame over the summer.

#49 "Back on 74" Jungle

Next up is another viral track, Back on 74 was all over TikTok late Summer because of the amazing choreography showcased in the music video, which had everyone attempting it and some of the twinks who did so looked incredible while doing so. The song is a classic disco-tinged tune and I'm always here to listen to new Jungle after seeing them at a festival back in 2018.

#48 "All My Lovers" St. Croix ft. Seann Miley Moore

Following that up is All My Lovers, which achieves what I look for in music so effortlessly. It's a pop-inspired house track, very easy listening, and immediately hypes me up and gives me energy if I am working out and trying to get through the day.

#47 "Weekends" Freya Ridings

Weekends by Freya Ridings makes the list after her Eurovision participation rumors went rampant during BBC's teasing era of their new artist. Freya's voice is absolutely gorgeous and as much as I loved Mae Muller's song, Freya would probably have done better since she can sing live well.

#46 "Move Me" Donna Missal

Moving on to Move Me, Donna's whole album of electronic pop came into my life a few months ago and while I really enjoyed almost every track on the album, this one became my favorite from the project and the one I return to the most often.

#45 "Breaking the Circle" Sophie Ellis Bextor

I am always here for Queen Sophie, and after the humongous track Hypnotized which ended up my fifth-most-played track of 2022, I was extremely excited for her new project. Unfortunately, HANA was a bit of a letdown after it switched into an easier pop sound inspired by her trip to Japan, but at least she made another smash with Breaking The Circle.

#44 "Paradise" King of the Rollers & Katy B

This track just proves how incredible Katy B is as an artist, and how much we need her to come back with another dance-inspired album! This drum and bass track serves up classic British excellence, and hopefully we don't have to wait long before we get more tracks from Katy.

#43 "Over" CHVRCHES

As an unpopular opinion, but I really did not love Screen Violence much and it did not connect with me which was so sad seeing how everyone else was loving it and my past love for their earlier albums. Over, to me, served as a reintroduction back to the excellence they served with their first three albums, and I was sad there weren't any more tracks that came out this year from them. Hopefully, we'll get an album full of Overs in 2024

#42 "Cupid" FIFTY FIFTY

I have always been slightly side-eyeing K-pop since the genre exploded back with the Wonder Girls, but usually each year there are 1 or 2 songs that find their way to me that I love. Cupid does not top the excellence of ITZY's Icy as my all-time favorite K-pop song, but it definitely gets close and it's so nice to see international artists find success worldwide like FIFTY FIFTY did with this classic.

#41 "Fever" Alison Goldfrapp

I have been a HUGE Goldfrapp fan for as long as I remember. I got my parents to buy me the Supernature CD for Christmas back in 2006 and I've been hooked ever since. As usual, Alison can not do any wrong, and her debut solo album this year was a fantastic blend of everything Goldfrapp has experimented with in the past while moving herself into a solo category of underrated female pop divas. Fever is my favorite track from the album and something I still listen to often.

Planet Of The Bass was definitely a moment, especially for someone who LOVES 90s eurodance. It deserves the recognition, but it's too campy for me to genuinely enjoy to the fullest. :gaycat6:

Fever is definitely the best on Goldfrapp's newest album, but I think I like the instrumental above anything else in the song.

I lowkey agree about Planet of the Bass which is why it only slid in at #50. It had SO MUCH potential but obviously Kyle is a comedian and it did get too campy due to that.

Fever also is amazing, in the original, the instrumental, the Paul Wofford remix, and the new version that just came out. She really did that :clap3:
