What female rappers rn have an album run like that and a new album basically about to do the same, maybe better than her last. Missy Elliot (1997-2005). Supa Dupa Fly: Platinum. Da Real World: Platinum. Miss-E… So Addictive: 2x platinum. Under Construction: 2x platinum. This Is Not A Test: Platinum. The Cookbook: Platinum. Minaj and Elliot, currently, have the same number of certified album units in the U.S and Elliot’s debut album is still under-certified. Elliot also has moved more album sales WW. Of course Nicki still has a cute little group of dedicated Barbz, but, what happens after their pre-orders all count towards the first week on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart? What’re they going to say when everyone’s IG stories listening to a song from her album expires? A cute little group of Barbz? She has 11 of the top 15 songs (8 out of the top 10) on Apple Music. Thats not a “a cute little group of dedicated Barbz”. Get a clue.

Nicki has 4 multi-platinum-eligible albums in the US. Nicki has sold more albums than Missy. Be serious.
HEAVYONIT Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Nicki’s longevity is thanks to twofold: 1. Her fanbase that she’s been able to maintain thanks to her 2. Undeniable talent and iconicness. 1
Mirkomonster Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Cause Nicki Minaj has talent and fambase
Dante Silva Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Nicki is an archetype and though I’m not a fan, the one thing I know about her is that she is strong. The others have things in their history that suggest they have at one point or another been objectified by men and willingly played that role to profit and get ahead. Whilst they should not be criticised for that, the internet does not forget and they have produced imagery that has fed that patriarchy pleasing narrative and it has tainted their ability to project an image of strength for other women as a consequence fed a perception of them amongst women as being ‘a man’s woman’ as opposed to ‘a woman’s woman’ (like Nicki). When Nicki takes her titties out, you know it’s because she wants them to experience fresh air and to please herself not because she is trying to please a man.

Lady Gaga and Madonna fall into this category, also. Their boldness were never about the male gaze, and that scare straight men 1

Missy is amazing, she hasn't had an album or anything siginificant release-wise this generation. It's even more amazing NIcki and her are in the same category of success when nicki basically began in the digital age truly legends only
modeblock Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Well, we can start off with the FACT that Nicki is an incredibly talented artist.

Certifications based on sales and streams are different challenges.
ForgottenSoul Posted December 9, 2023 Posted December 9, 2023 Should you really be saying that when she did 15m with 22 songs? 1

lg6chromatica Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 Please, as if the self-proclaimed Queen of Rap hasn't had BEYOND her fair share of failures, we haven't forgotten. The self-proclaimed Queen of Rap remains "relevant" only when riding the wave of Ice Spice, and by putting out 2-minute-long songs sampling better, catchier pop songs ....and you say the other girls "flopped" as if they aren't ever going to release music again LOL. Don't be surprised, they will still rise.
lg6chromatica Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 21 hours ago, CatchIt said: The simple answer is that Nicki cultivated a stable fanbase (that is only growing in number as the younger crowd discover her old gems and realise her talent far surpasses some other rap girls who are only good at making calculated single choices). Many of the other rap girls (other than Doja) have fanbases that were cultivated out of a hatred of Nicki - these fan bases will never thrive because they're never in it for the music. I stan Cardi B because her music, personality, eras, rollouts etc. are fun, as are the visuals she offers - absolutely top tier, she raises the standard with each release. The super freaky lady, lo and behold, was more than comfortable having zero #1 singles to her name before Cardi entered the scene. It also helps that, y'know, Cardi doesn't go around obnoxiously calling herself the "Queen of Rap" whilst bullying other female artists (10-20 years younger than her) for no valid reason, and just being a sloppy, bitter presence in the music scene in general.
