This is important context/part in the quote "Same way that I can’t sing other people’s songs. I didn’t write the lyrics, and I can’t sing as well as them."

So people pretending to be offended by that quote in the OP tweet can eat sh*t

What's wrong with what she said? :skull: She writes her own stuff and that's her opinion.

Put yourself in her shoes, how would you feel if someone covered a song that you poured your heart and soul into?

I understand what she's saying but I've always objected to this notion that you can't properly emote on a song you didn't write. You might not have had exactly the same experience as the person writing it but it's possible to relate to lyrics in a song so you can sing them as if they have meaning to you too.

Exactly. Just look at someone like Whitney and what she did with "I Will Always Love You."

She is wrong in that too. It's not offensive, it is just a stupid and lame thing to say.

She's very protective of her music, that's not unusual. Mariah said something similiar that when she's clearing samples or covers she would rather not do it because she can't control how her art will be handled. But in the end, songwriters know they can't gatekeep their work forever, they have to let go a bit and I think it's perfectly understandable that they struggle a bit with that.

And the I Will Always Love You debate isn't the best example, since it is the exception to the rule. The majority of cover versions don't become hits.

I see her point but she comes off as too rude

She just doesn't wanna admit that a Swiftie ended her.

Happy that people enjoy my music and can relate to it so much to the point they create their own version and convey their own emotions through it? :skull: instead of just releasing flash in the pan songs that people forget after a year?

adele’s gotten less and less humble and more full of herself. yawn

She's so full of herself. It's not because you didn't write a song that you can't sing it or emote better, Céline is a perfect example of this. Going by her logic, people can't relate to a song because it's not their words. :rip:

I get what she's saying. Her songs are very personal and anyone doing covering can't possible have the same emtions behind them when she is singing.

But a thing to say the meaning i gave to them It's something i can only do cause when i sing "we were there that Christmas day" i have the exact picture of what It means., a thing It's to Say "they can't emote It".

Maybe She espressed herself wrong but that's not true.

It legit doesn't sound like something she would say at ALL.

I say good luck trying to cover songs like Love in the Dark, My Little Love or To Be Loved. And it's not just about delivering the melody, but also getting the feeling across. There are songs that are less personal, especially on 25, but still most of her songs are very specific to Adele and her life events, that's what she's talking about in that quote. I recommend people read that whole interview rather than just one line. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/adele-emotional-interview-music-motherhood-hollywood-las-vegas-1235711358/

Does anyone know if she's referring to a particular cover, or if she's throwing shade to someone?

She's SUCH a dead fish on stage. Sings her ass off of course but past her first albums i haven't seen a performance of her showing any sort of showmanship at all. For YEARS.
