Or is this a Hikaru thing? This is how album releases typically work in Japan. All the singles/music videos come first. The album comes out last which coincides with the end of the era. Occasionally, a single(known a “recut single” in this case) can be released after the album comes out, but that is actually pretty rare. (“First Love” is actually an example of this happening.) So, in theory, if an artist wants they could have songs that are 3-5 years old on an album depending how long they want to keep releasing singles and adding them. The double punch she did with EXODUS and ULTRA BLUE was wild, being present in her fandom back in the day was amazing. She went super left field with EXODUS and the fans we got it we were in for a ride (the fans who didn't get that masterpiece, I pity them but now I'm sure they love it). Then she took the ethereal stuff from DEEP RIVER and mixed it with the electronic stuff of EXODUS and created the immaculate ULTRA BLUE. She said "I'm gonna give my fans all they need after going mad scientist".
