Sofía Vergara is completely transformed in the official trailer for her upcoming limited series, "Griselda."

 

In the six-episode limited series, inspired by true events and premiering Jan. 25 on Netflix, the "Modern Family" alum plays the titular role of Griselda Blanco, an infamous Colombian drug "queenpin" in Miami in the 1970s and '80s who earned the moniker "The Godmother."

 

The trailer starts in 1981 with a courtroom scene in which a woman says, "For the last three years, Griselda Blanco has owned Miami. Distributing cocaine." A man chimes in, saying, "Ms. Blanco's operation has been efficient, deadly and incredibly successful."

 

As a Spanish-language version of "Call Me" by Blondie plays and we rewind to 1978, Vergara's Blanco says, "There are a lot of women who leave the man but not the life. I swear, I know what I'm doing."

 

While speaking to a group of eager listeners, including Latin music superstar Karol G as Carla, Blanco says, "This is the country of dreams. We have the power to bring excitement back into their boring lives."

 

An investigator seems to be on the heels of Blanco's operation. "One woman is behind all this," they say. "Pull the right card, the whole house comes down."

 

"Griselda," which premieres Jan. 25 on Netflix, is executive produced by Vergara, created by "Narcos" showrunner Eric Newman and directed by Andrés Baiz, with Ingrid Escajeda as showrunner and writer.

J.Lo has been attached to star as Griselda Blanco for a biopic called, The Godmother. However, that film has been stuck in development hell, and Netflix was able to secure this miniseries first with Sofia playing Griselda. But J.Lo’s movie is still in the works.

So far, I like the series and Sofia Vergara is doing a fine job. I'm not her biggest fan but I can safely say she has a potential to really excel in dramatic roles. The series is shot real well. However... I do feel as if Lifetime did a better job with Cocaine Godmother than Netflix has done with Griselda. Things were unnecessarily changed and really pushed because they were on Netflix, so it felt like they said "we can do it so let's do it," and it does not work.

Idk the story which is great since I can learn as I go but I'm gonna assume this is more fiction than reality. The first 2 eps were entertaining and Sofia is killing it, I love seeing the comedy girls turn to drama and devour.

I just finished the show and hope Sofía gets Emmy and GG nominations for this. She was amazing.

I hate that they are kind of glorifying Griselda (which was a literal monster) and you end up rooting for her  It's very entertaining though and Sofia does a great job

Sofia DEVOURED this role This is the best acting she's ever done! She completely disappeared as Griselda, especially in episodes 5 and 6. Really riveting series, glad it's #1 on Netflix and very critically acclaimed.

Sofia is miscast...griselda was much more stocky and bigger than sofias pretty girl looks.
