BryceG Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 (edited) Quote Jennifer Lopez is attached to star in a feature adaptation of the 1993 Broadway musical “Kiss of the Spider Woman,” written and directed by “Dreamgirls” filmmaker Bill Condon, Variety has confirmed with a source close to the production. The music is by legends John Kander and Fred Ebb, based on the novel by Manuel Puig and the book of the musical by Terrence McNally. The musical is set in an Argentinian prison in 1981. Lopez would play the titular role, a fantasy woman named Aurora created by Luis Molina, a gay hairdresser serving an eight-year sentence for allegedly corrupting a minor. To escape the horrors of his imprisonment, Molina imagines movies starring Aurora as a classic silver screen diva, including a role of the spider woman, who kills her prey with a kiss. Molina’s life is upended when a Marxist, Valentin Arregui Paz, is brought into his cell, and the two form an unlikely bond. https://variety.com/2023/film/news/jennifer-lopez-kiss-of-the-spider-woman-musical-bill-condon-1235825197/ It's coming... BryceG Posted December 7, 2023 Author Posted December 7, 2023 Whilst I expect Amazon and Netflix to start bidding against each other, this actually screams Sony Pictures Classics. I imagine it starts going to studios for bidding tomorrow. Jennifer Lopez is a business, woman.

jakeisphat Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 I hope she gets her Oscar nomination with this. I’m bummed the Griselda biopic is in limbo, but I guess they are waiting to see how Sofia does before they make the jump. Maybe this will bolster her chances. 1
SupremeGoddess Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 coming for another MTV Movie Award Popcorn
Distantconstellation Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Say what u want about Jlo but shes a good actress and i think she should 100% focus on this and on getting serious roles if she wants to win an oscar. She shouldnt let a few flop gays get to her, ya'll dont matter

She's playing the character Arora, not Molina. And Molina isn't necessarily trans either, but the film is open to the role being played by a trans actor. 6

I'm glad she's doing something unique. I think with a bigger budget, they can do something visually slicker with this story, that wasn't quite possible with the previous film.
Hector Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Very surprised at this! The 1985 movie won William Hurt an Oscar for Best Actor in 1986. Curious to see if the musical version will get similar awards attention. 2
Marry The Gods Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 J.Lo: *does her job* her haters: She's a flop. She's problematic. She's the worst human being on the planet and deserves backlash. 2
