He was never a power house vocalist even on his recordings but he was always capable of putting on a competent vocal performance. Almost every major US network TV performance he did until around 2013 was live and they were all fine. The idea that he scammed people into not trusting their own ears for the better part of 30 years is ridiculous. Anyone who has followed him has noticed the deterioration in his voice (even his speaking voice) since 2017 onward. It unfortunately happens to singers that their voice box can get damaged particularly if they are frequent tourers like Enrique. Plus I don't think it's a coincidence that he's had two major respiratory illnesses in the last few years either. Still I would argue he's still sounds fine on 90% of his setlist. There is a reason these tiktok videos all focus on the same few songs over and over; those are the ones he really struggles with as opposed to the ones he can still pull off convincingly. Plenty of his collaborators have stood up for him as a songwriter. Even the ones he didn't write I'd still give him credit for being savvy and knowing a hit when he heard it. He has a fairly good track record on pushing for songs and directions that ended up being huge and opposing stuff that his label pushed on him and ended up flopping. You'd think a board which stans pop girls would know there is more to having a successful career than just singing well...which Enrique did fine throughout most of his career. Not to mention even some of his less well performing songs like Rhythm Divine, Not In Love and Do You Know are fondly remembered. Plus he has a very prolific career before he crossed over into English. Most of his classics in the Latin market are from that period and would be perfect to use in that region. I would argue Enrique's voice suited the material he releases. It's fact that he's the son of an established star means he was going to a lot of scrutiny. Even though we know now he and Julio were never close and been at odds over the years so didn't get any help from his father people will naturally wonder whether he's got talent to back up his success.
