I can't at her acting as if the Kimye situation was the end of the world or the beggining of the end of her career :rip:

It was obviously shitty and the backlash was all over the place but honestly it was just a hate train that every popstar goes through these days... and unlike most girls her career wasn't affected. Reputation still debuted with 1m+, she was able to go on a stadium tour, and so on.

Imagine if she actually faced what Britney had to deal with in 2007? Or when Madonna was basically the most hated person in the world during the 90s? And their careers were actually affected as Britney was put under a conservatorship and Madonna was banned from music channels, radio, started to struggle in the US etc.

She should just move on from this bs, this narrative is tired at this point. She's literally at the top of the world rn, no one cares about that situation anymore :deadbanana4:

Kanye putting naked wax figure of her along with CB, trump and others in that extremely pathetic video was definitely very traumatic. I feel for her.

Every thing is 'traumatic' to white women, even the slightest condemnation. They don't encounter and go through the actual traumatic life struggles so many women of colour go through. With far less resources and financial safety nets, no less. She continues to prove what a self-serving, text-book white feminist she is.

You would think Kim held Taylor down while Kanye assaulted her. On some The Handmaid's Tale type ****. She needs to grow up. :rip:

they didnt do that for clarifications, they did that to malign taytay

I agree they were being sh*t stirrers, but how could they have known for sure that she would lie about it publicly? They didn't force her to do that. If she had been honest publicly, there would have been no tea for Kim to spill.

I think a lot of people forget that that was a really low time for Taylor because of what she’s told us about herself. In recent years, Taylor has more than once said that for the first half of her career she was a people pleaser, that she liked being liked and she wanted to be liked by everyone (and in some ways I think she still has these tendencies, tbh). So yeah, I imagine that having two of the most famous people on earth at the time manipulate something so that the entire general public is led to believe you are a “snake” and a liar is quite damaging to your mental health.

Listen, I do think Taylor displayed some mean girl behavior in the Katy thing, so she’s not always been the victim her entire career, but she was in this situation. Hell, Taylor had forgiven Kanye for the VMA incident. To be lied about in such a public manner simply because a few people (there is evidence strongly suggesting Scooter Braun had a part in the whole thing, but that’s for another day) decided to orchestrate a takedown would be incredibly hurtful to anyone.

But she wasn't being lied about, she was lying. She was also lied to. But she was exposed for lying about the phone call. I agree with her that it was manufactured. But it was manufactured by them to expose her for lying. If she hadn't lied about the call, there would have been no point in releasing the tape.

And both of those things are true. Taylor had never heard the full song before it was released. So she never knew that the b word would be used against her in the first place.

In fact, she specifically doesn't want to be called a b word in the full conversation.

Point us in this video where did she lie about anything, quickly.

The reason the call was revealed was to prove that Taylor was a liar, she had denied that a conversation ever happened and once her deception was revealed, Taylor tried to change her tune to "oh actually calling me a b was the real issue" So the fact that Taylor blatantly lied made her seem like it was a deliberate attempt to play the victim.

None of this justifies Kanyes actions or secretly recording someone but the whole episode does reveal that Taylor likes to control narratives and has no scruples about telling lies to achieve her aim.

The fact that Swifties these days try to celebrate this as some sort of moment of triumph is hilarious because Taylor ends up looking less than positive once you know everything that went down, she got caught with her hand in the cookie jar and successfully twisted the narrative.

Taylor did not lie.  Some people seemed to only get the cliffnotes version of the story and twisted it into "She said he never told her about the song, but this proves that he did call her and tell her about it!!!".... which was not the story.  From the beginning, she never denied a phone call took place, and said she knew the song existed.  When asked if Taylor did hear the song, this is what Taylor's publicist said:

Kim got mad and posted snippets of their conversation. The full video, however, leaked a few years ago and shows that Taylor was telling the truth...he told her one part of the line, never actually played her the song to hear the full context, and did ask her to premiere it on Twitter (which she declined, saying feminists would come at her for it).    In that video, you could hear that he was building it up to be this big thing, twisting her arm a bit, and she was clearly uncomfortable.  And he certainly did not ask her if he could put a naked figure of her body in bed with him in his music video.

Taylor gave a lot more context to the whole thing in a 2019 interview.

Did you do anything wrong from your perspective in dealing with that phone call? Is there anything you regret?
The world didn’t understand the context and the events that led up to it. Because nothing ever just happens like that without some lead-up. Some events took place to cause me to be pissed off when he called me a bitch. That was not just a singular event. Basically, I got really sick of the dynamic between he and I. And that wasn’t just based on what happened on that phone call and with that song — it was kind of a chain reaction of things.

I started to feel like we reconnected, which felt great for me — because all I ever wanted my whole career after that thing happened in 2009 was for him to respect me. When someone doesn’t respect you so loudly and says you literally don’t deserve to be here — I just so badly wanted that respect from him, and I hate that about myself, that I was like, “This guy who’s antagonizing me, I just want his approval.” But that’s where I was. And so we’d go to dinner and stuff. And I was so happy, because he would say really nice things about my music. It just felt like I was healing some childhood rejection or something from when I was 19. But the 2015 VMAs come around. He’s getting the Vanguard Award. He called me up beforehand — I didn’t illegally record it, so I can’t play it for you. But he called me up, maybe a week or so before the event, and we had maybe over an hourlong conversation, and he’s like, “I really, really would like for you to present this Vanguard Award to me, this would mean so much to me,” and went into all the reasons why it means so much, because he can be so sweet. He can be the sweetest. And I was so stoked that he asked me that. And so I wrote this speech up, and then we get to the VMAs and I make this speech and he screams, “MTV got Taylor Swift up here to present me this award for ratings!” [His exact words: “You know how many times they announced Taylor was going to give me the award ’cause it got them more ratings?”] And I’m standing in the audience with my arm around his wife, and this chill ran through my body. I realized he is so two-faced. That he wants to be nice to me behind the scenes, but then he wants to look cool, get up in front of everyone and talk shit. And I was so upset. He wanted me to come talk to him after the event in his dressing room. I wouldn’t go. So then he sent this big, big thing of flowers the next day to apologize. And I was like, “You know what? I really don’t want us to be on bad terms again. So whatever, I’m just going to move past this.” So when he gets on the phone with me, and I was so touched that he would be respectful and, like, tell me about this one line in the song.

The line being “. . . me and Taylor might still have sex”?
[Nods] And I was like, “OK, good. We’re back on good terms.” And then when I heard the song, I was like, “I’m done with this. If you want to be on bad terms, let’s be on bad terms, but just be real about it.” And then he literally did the same thing to Drake. He gravely affected the trajectory of Drake’s family and their lives. It’s the same thing. Getting close to you, earning your trust, detonating you. I really don’t want to talk about it anymore because I get worked up, and I don’t want to just talk about negative shit all day, but it’s the same thing. Go watch Drake talk about what happened. [West denied any involvement in Pusha-T’s revelation of Drake’s child and apologized for sending “negative energy” toward Drake.]

I guess we are getting into the little details and even if Taylor was not aware of the exact language that Kanye was using in the track, her publicist made it sound like he and Taylor had not even talked about the situation which is clearly untrue when you are listening to the recording. I don't like Kanye or Kim and I think that Taylor was overall in the right when it comes to this situation (especially after the gross naked figure) but there was very clearly a deliberate attempt to shift focus from the original conversation of the call onto the use of the b word to craft a narrative about what the controversy was about to begin with. At the very least, Taylor should have pressed Kanye for specific details, not say that she trusted him and get mad when he used the word.

Omg , I never knew some of these details. Kanye  is literally the most toxic artist that ever existed. I wish she released a truly in-your-face type of diss track.

The issue was never about her “lying”. It was the fact that she tried to go on the Grammys and throw Kanye shade as a way to inspire young women (feminism) when she had okay’d the lyric about making her famous. Then, the later focus on the word “*****” was used as a distraction to make it a feminist thing (which it’s not). And it worked cause it seems everyone’s forgotten.

ie

-Kanye told her about the traumatizing lyric

-Swift goes on the Grammys and says to young women that other people will try to take credit for your work and success and fame

-The song comes out and Taylor goes see?!!? I was right!!

-phone call is released and the narrative becomes “but..but…*****! He said *****! Hiss!”

I think her publicist saying "he asked her to premiere the song on her social media, which she declined and cautioned him about releasing a song with such a strong misogynistic message" is pretty clearly implying that they did talk about it, no?

Sure, Taylor could have pressed him for more details, but she had no reason to if that's all he said was about her in the song (and the way he he presented it to her on the call, saying how he was so nervous to even tell her and it was so crazy, etc).  She was mad not just because of the one word, but because of a lot that led up to it (read that excerpt from her Rolling Stone interview).
