I swear, it's one of the most played Xmas songs in Asia, along with AIWFCIY. Sad, it's such a flop in the US. !!! Here in Europe it's also a big classic. I think it sounds too organic for the US market.

Let's wildly assume every single one of them plays Brenda's song once an hour over an average of 12 operational hours a day and never play Mariah's song at all. That gives us ~140k net gain spins for Brenda from Malls. She'd still be #1 without this fictional assumption. -- Doesn't Brenda get substantial benefits from being on the Christmas Classics playlist from which Mariah is excluded? I was talking about the half of the top 50 being just Christmas music not just Brenda 1
Green Posted November 25, 2023 Posted November 25, 2023 Spotify and Amazon always have been more Christmas friendly than Apple

Well, you have to take into consideration that each shop inside the mall has its own playlist (at least if it's the same in the US as it is in France), so that's multiplies these numbers significantly.
GoodGuyGoneGhetto Posted November 25, 2023 Posted November 25, 2023 I’m currently in NYC and xmas music is playing everywhere. There was a random “Jingle Bell Rock” street performance (not ‘Mean Girls’ related) in Times Square last night and buskers are literally singing xmas songs and hymns all over the place. I’m not surprised. I already can’t wait until December 26th.
Jolin Tsai Posted November 25, 2023 Posted November 25, 2023 SZA should release LANA now. S-O-S, please, someone help me.
Ger Posted November 25, 2023 Posted November 25, 2023 Crazy, but the U.S. seems to LOVE Christmas, congrats to Brendis

Isn't it illegal to do that (play music from a streaming platform in a business)? At least here where I am you would have to get a licensed program with pre-made playlists (radio). Even if it's a speacial event like a wedding you would have to buy a license to play music from YouTube on speakers. Maybe some smaller and privately owned stores play music through a streaming plarform but most stores have licensed and specially curated playlists from an internal program.

I've literally been in big stores where they put their own playlist ( I would play different ablums when i used to work retail and I recall Lemonade ( clean version) being played at a Macy's the week it came out, whoever was the gay who played it in the store thank you) so I don't think so. Especially if said store is using an employees own spotify account. 1

Mean Trees Posted November 25, 2023 Posted November 25, 2023 People want good old fashioned Xmas bops that celebrate being with their entire family, not pining over a hookup. 1

JC. Posted November 25, 2023 Posted November 25, 2023 Definetly due to retailers. From the link below, some big retailers have their xmas playlist in rotation by Black Friday. https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2022-holiday-music-shopping-season-retail-stores/ 1 1

You’re not supposed to hear the ads, so if they have premium then that’s ok.

Mystic Boy Posted November 25, 2023 Posted November 25, 2023 As i already stated, it makes total sense that malls and shops impact is bigger than we think. Keep in mind that each mall has like a hundred shops with their own music (at least it's that way in France) so i think the potential is pretty huge.
