Movie Donna made zero sense. The BTS drama for this whole show is kind of insane when you think about it

i get that they were in a tough spot cos Donna obvs had to be in it but I just couldn't suspend my disbelief

Tea. I’ve been doing a slight deep dive into the bts stuff (especially concerning season 2) and it’s fascinating just how much was going on.

Side note: can we talk about Dana and Mädchen’s chemistry? I always liked them but paying closer attention to their dynamic and performances they kind of eat every single scene. As much as I love Lara, James, Sheryl and queen Sherilynn they all have a couple questionable acting choices and line deliveries but Mädchen and Dana are remarkably consistent considering their age and experience at the time.

Made it through season 2 and watched FWWM last night :jamming:

Don’t know if I’ll start The Return tonight or later this week but really excited to watch it again!

Of all the things to critique in season 2 :clack:he and Shelly are endgame

But the real scene stealer is the wondrous and hot Agent Albert Rosenfield LAWD the way I fell in love with him during my re-watch (currently on part 8 of The Return)

Okay, so I was thinking about this very thing upon rewatching. Like, there are so many red flags and such inexplicable behavior even considering his predicament. Most of the time when a writer or creator says they knew all along who the killer or what the big twist was, I'm hesitant to believe them (especially with television because you never know how long you'll be on air etc.) With Twin Peaks I definitely didn't initially believe they knew because they said they never intended on revealing the killer's identity, but re-watching it I was like oh, they definitely knew it was him all along even if they didn't want to reveal it.

the cracks in S2 actually start to show earlier than I remember too. way before Lynch leaves you have bad storylines like Super Nadine cropping up. people always say the show was ruined by Lynch's departure which is ofc true to a big extent but I also think it just it always had a shelf life

Now that I'm a decent way through The Return (which is going amazingly, I'm loving every bit of it except for the awkward product placement like wut) I have some thoughts.

- Purportedly David and Mark told Piper Laurie (and maybe Joan Chen as well) that they didn't have a way to integrate their characters into the story but like... they had no problem shoehorning Jerry and Dr. Jacoby back in :rip: Don't get me wrong, I love those actors and characters but Miss Catherine Martell deserved one last hurrah for her legendary character and there could have been an easy tie in with Josie/The Great Northern.

- I absolutely loathed that they actually cast an actress for Diane/made her a present character the first time I watched The Return (I also did not care whatsoever for Laura Dern's performance) However, she's won me over this time and I no longer hate that decision to incorporate her into the story.

- The comedy of The Return can be quite different from the comedic elements of the original series but I'm finding myself genuinely laughing out loud and loving the jokes and hokeyness which I mostly found jarring the first time through.

- This isn't really that big of a criticism per se but I feel like the original series had stronger female characters. Aside from the small cameos, all the big female characters are pretty much defined by men. Yes, there was a lot of that in the original but Catherine, Josie, Audrey, and Donna had more depth than Diane, Tammy, etc.

- I really don't remember so much of The Return (I mean it is eighteen episodes after all) so I'm having the time of my life revisiting it

People love to say that it got worse after Lynch exited but purportedly he wasn't even that involved in the back half of season 1 or the start of season 2 and from what I've read online it seems like neither Lynch or Frost were that concerned with the show's future considering they were both working on other projects at the time :rip: And even weirder, clearly Lynch had the time seeing as Cole is around a bunch throughout the season. I'm kind of like, if you loved this show so much why didn't you prioritize show-running it?

This re-watch actually made me like season 2 more than I already did. It becomes a different show in a lot of ways and so many unnecessary, underbaked, and undeserving storylines take precedence but I still found myself invested in it all except for James and his IT'S WRONG affair with that blonde lady

And what if I said Piper Laurie did what she had to do! I'm joking it's obviously an abhorrent plot line

yeah I think everyone (including the public :suburban:) had checked out by mid-season 2, it had no business being 22 episodes long. 10 episodes would have solved so many issues

no but you spilled, it's actually one of the least bad S2 storylines purely because Piper Laurie is so good

Watching Kyle MacLachlan in SATC and Desperate housewives before I saw Twin Peaks kinda ruined his sexapil for me :rip: He's so handsome in TP but when I see his face all I can think of are those 2 pathetic characters he played in DH and SATC :gaycat6:

Super Nadine, Civil War Ben, and Evelyn Marsh deserve the hate but one S2 storyline that doesn't get enough is the widow Milford, truly terrible :rip:
