Nobody was especially upset or chagrined to see U2 lose both their Song and Record wins for “Beautiful Day.” Destiny’s Child prevailed to claim our Song of the Year win with “Say My Name,” and they put up a very strong fight in the Record of the Year category as well. Ultimately, however, Madonna’s “Music” made the voters come together!

In 2002, U2 won a second consecutive Record of the Year trophy for “Walk On,” while Best New Artist recipient Alicia Keys also took home Song of the Year for her classic smash “Fallin’.”

I love these threads lmaoo i clicked so fast

Alicia is the second double winner (and first to actually be eligible for both) for me. Fallin' is easily the best debut single by a female star during that early 00s era. A great groove, well-written, and composed like she been making bangers for years.

I'm giving Record to Train because it's really such a gorgeous production, and Song to Nelly because it's one of those rare songs that felt like an instant classic-perfect melody, lyrics

Probably the last time they had truly inspired picks

And I'm going with Video for both, partly because she walked away empty-handed that night and that should never happen with a song as important as Video
