Bears01
While highly acclaimed, fun and interesting movies like Super Mario, Barbie and Oppenheimer SMASHED at the box office this year, these 3 movies broke records for how badly they flopped. 1 in particular has flopped so bad that it’s left one of the biggest corporations on the planet (Disney) in absolute shambles, and one essentially killed an entire extended universe. Which of these films is the biggest box office disasters of the year?

X~MoviePoP
So sad that the 3 flops are elderly, queer and female starred movies. 1

I think on expectations alone, the marvels is the biggest disaster. It’s a sequel to a 1 billion+dollar grossing movie, and its box office run is an utter trainwreck. The one thing giving “the flash” the option was that they had to do reshoots, so it very likely cost the most all things considered

Dialamba
The flash there was 0 possibility it would smash. IJ it’s an old franchise so people get tired easily. The marvel is the biggest disappointment since it’s a MCU movie and even when there are some underperformances it completely tanked.

But then you remember the insane longevity it had where its numbers remained impressive even 2 months after its release. That excuse can fly after a week or 2, but it’s clear audiences liked it and didn’t really care about the political tone of it

Johnnyboi
Marvels obviously but Flash is the funniest. They really convinced a lot of people that it was going to be the Greatest Superhero Movie ever.

It might as well could have been the greatest superhero movie ever, but with the amount drama before it was even released, it was never going to be successful enough to justify it's budget. Gorjesspazze9
The flash lost WB over $300M alone the Marvels will lose Marvel studios $120M. It’s not close. Edited November 20 by Gorjesspazze9

A movie does not smash like Barbie did through luck. These movies are flopping because people are tired of superhero movies and unnecessary sequels. I partially agree with her. I don't think it's the main reason, but it also had an effect. I've seen so many political comments under the CM trailers and it's not a secret that she is the object of hatred of many right-wingers. However, I also believe that CM is simply too boring as a character. I don't like "perfect" superheroes like her or Superman. Yeah, this goes back to the point I made about it possibly being the flash: it had reshoots. Reshoots cost an insane amount of $$$. But The Marvels box office run is currently worse than the flash, and by a decent margin at that
