AHHHHHH Would have loved a top 10 sneak from Letters. But this is still a respectable position :)

I didn't know y'all lived for Nijikan this much honestly :rip:

I'm suprised you aren't living for Nina Nipponina (but I agree, it was kinda the best thing ever when released but since then lost some charm like Nina lost the ability to create a non-jingle).

good song but every song preceeding it on the album is better :giraffe:

I didn't even realize it was still in, mess @ it outpeaking the title track

I guess it was obvious that Sakura, traveling and the KH song would be the album's top 3 but I did expect Letters to put up more of a fight and make things a bit unexpected.

It's a cute bop with a cute melody so I see why some like it, also fantome payola helped her I guess

even back then I thought it was just nice, definitely a far cry from either's best but that was to be expected

Unfortunately I didn't get the same feeling from Fantôme as everyone else :gaycat6: it just feels quite muted in comparison to their other albums. I need to go through it again with a clear mind.

Let's go lesbians!

Of all the other J-divas, Sheena Ringo, Ringo Shiina, Ringo Shena... however you romanize it is by far the one who's worked with Utada the most. There's a certain kinship there. First working together in 2003 on Sheena's cover album, the duo performed a Carpenters classic 'I Won't Last a Day Without You'. Sheena would later cover the song Letters (which we JUST eliminated - how spooky!) for the Utada tribute album in 2014, and Hikaru would return the favor by covering the Sheena classic 'Marunouchi Sadistic' for Ringo's own tribute album in 2018.

But it took until 2016 for us to finally get the duo together on an original track, one which translates to 'Two Hour Only Vacation'. It's such a sweet and uplifting song, without ever trailing into annoying or treacly territory. The necessity of escape is a deep one for all of us in today's world - grinding our gears in the capitalist machine... it can be a dehumanizing experience. On Nijikan Dake no Vacance, the duo arrive at the conclusion that they'll just have to sneak in every little opportunity for some relief from the mundane. Even if it's only for two days... two hours... two minutes. It can be as simple as dropping work and going for a walk in the park together.

The song was not a proper single or anything, but it did get a radio release in the weeks leading up to Fantome's launch in September 2016. And I'd be remiss to cover this track and not mention the rather amazing video we got from it. Lesbians... in space! It's a quirky yet sweet video that sees the two women traveling through the solar system in a space station of some sort. Drifting past Jupiter, riding over the dunes of some other planet, and finally embracing as they look out at Saturn's rings together - just holding each other before their excursion has to come to an end. I'd certainly call it one of Hikaru's strongest post-Kiriya visuals!

AND it got on the SCIENCE FICTION tracklist over actual single Manatsu no Toriame! Vindicated by history!

Curaga is a **** for some strings... "Mothership take off! OK the strings again ❤️"

AMIT is bopping, but not that much. "both my faves delivered a good song, but I would be lying if I said it's one of my fave songs by either of them, fine effort though, anyways stream Shiina's collabs with millenium parade!"

The planet in the Nijikan video? That's exactly where my wig flew to after I listened to Mx Ringo's early albums for the first time last week. :jonny4:

The Ls I am taking in this half of today’s reveal, let me just hope that Ore No Kanojo isn’t next and made it to the top ten

I honestly find it hard to put into words how much I like some of these better Fantôme tracks. To try to dissect them feels like a disservice to the experiences I’ve had with them. I can tell you this one is up there, though! I just feel a little more relaxed and free when I listen to it.

Plus I think that this one has my favorite video in Utada’s entire career, so that’s pretty cool, too.

#11, the most unlucky of all places. What do we think it is? :penguin:

I can confirm that the song at #11 is the first to have received Brandy_Norwood_%E2%80%93_Two_Eleven.JPG's

Well, I hope that it's not Automatic. And Pantene fans do deserve one song in the top 10.
