When the far right matched in Charlottesville in 2017 chanting slogans like "blood and soil" and "Jews will not replace us", they did not literally mean that Jews would replace white people on a one-for-one basis, they were voicing a conspiracy theory promoted and spread by many people, including Tucker Carlson and Donald Trump, that non-white people are being brought into the U.S. and other western countries, to replace white workers and white voters. In most versions of this conspiracy theory, if you listen long enough, you will eventually be told that Jews are orchestrating it. This theory attracts the sort of people crazy enough to take violent action, including the Pittsburgh synagogue shooter, who killed 11 Jewish people in a synagogue in Pittsburgh in October 2018 and the Christchurch mosque terrorist who killed 51 people in two mosques in New Zealand.
