Apple just doesn't offer more economic options (outside of the SE). And honestly, most Americans don't even actually pay for the phone (at least not outright). All the major carriers offer monthly payments and sometimes even give you the phone for free (with a service contract). The whole status thing is dumb to me tbh. Just pick the phone you like, it really shouldn't be that serious. A $1,000 iPhone doesn't quite qualify as a true status symbol. iSheep treat it like the pinnacle of smartphones, but it's really not much of a bragging right unless iPhones reach a price point of at least $5k for which I’m pretty sure most iPhone users today won’t be able to afford lol. An iPhone is just a MASS consumer electronic device just like Samsung. 1

Starshine Posted November 17, 2023 Posted November 17, 2023 (edited) This won't hurt iMessage in any way or remove the green bubbles. If anything it benefits iPhone users more as they don't have to rely on unencrypted SMS technology. Android users will still be seen as the ugly green bubble and will likely have "sent as RCS" under the text. The entire point of the millions Google spent on shaming Apple was to move Apple onto Google's flop proprietary RCS servers, fix their failures in making phone carriers cooperate as it's barely acceptable on all current Androids in the way it's handled. It will be the universal GSMA RCS standard and likely Apple's own E2EE servers/terms. So everyone's winning. To think it'll hurt Apple's share in any way though... Apple is taking all of the key Android features like USB-C, side loading, RCS, and have all the headroom globally to grow as Android flagship sales are sinking in the US and their home countries like South Korea, Japan, and China.
