Tracy Chapman’s Fast Car Makes History as CMA’s SOTY

Song of the Year is an award for the songwriter(s). Tracy Chapman is the first black woman to win a CMA award in the association’s 57 year history. 
 

“Fast Car” also won Single of the Year

for Luke Combs’s performance.

congrats to her but genuine question, how is it eligible? cause other award shows like grammy wouldn't allow such thing

A timeless classic! I always get annoyed for her whenever a cover of the song becomes a big hit, but i’m glad she’s getting her flowers.

As far as I can tell, the only songs ineligible for the category are those that have previously been nominated. Kinda a strange way of doing things, but I guess it works.

That’s not what happened. Her version of the song didn’t win; Luke’s version was the song nominated and won but the award goes to the songwriter.

The whole Tracy Chapman album is filled with classics. She was at her top form. A black and lesbian woman how about that? :clap3:
