Chris Evans Has Reportedly Signed Up to Return in Avengers: Secret Wars

Marvel Studios may be reevaluating its future plans for the Multiverse Saga, but another big casting rumour is doing the rounds on social media this weekend.

Yes, we're talking about Avengers: Secret Warsagain and another of those original Avengers that Marvel Studios is supposedly so keen on enlisting for its grand finale to this current era of storytelling. Earlier this week, we told you that Robert Downey Jr. has reportedly signed on the dotted line to play Iron Man again, and now Chris Evans is said to be on board to return as Captain America.

Once again, we have no idea whether he will star as a Variant or the original Steve Rogers (heck, for all we know, he might suit up as the Human Torch). What we can say, though, is that this is very good news.

The last time Evans played Cap was in Avengers: Endgame; in the movie's closing moments, he returned to the present day after travelling back in time - presumably to a branched timeline - as an old man and gifted Sam Wilson his shield, passing the mantle of Captain America to his friend in the process.

However, Steve was absent from The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and all we know is the former Avenger is "gone." The Statue of Liberty has since been redesigned in Cap's honour, suggesting the world believes he's dead (and he very well may be).

As for Avengers: Secret Wars, a role for the original Captain America is a must. As far as we're aware, only Scarlett Johannson is left to be enlisted for an MCU return, so here's hoping Kevin Feige has fully smoothed things over with the actress after former Disney CEO Bob Chapek decided to take her to task for wanting what she was owed after Black Widow largely bypassed theaters for Disney+'s short-lived Premier Access platform.

Some fans are thrilled at the possibility of the original six Avengers assembling again, while others feel it's a misstep on Marvel Studios' part. After all, we've already bid farewell to the Infinity Saga's take on Earth's Mightiest Heroes, so do we need to do so again? It will come down to story and, with the Multiverse at play, there's likely fun to be had here.

What role do you think Captain America should play in Avengers: Secret Wars?

He can. He was good in Sunshine, Knives Out, Snowpiercer and was perfect as Captain America.  Just like Keanu was perfect as Neo, not every actor has to be  genius, sometimes being good is enough for the role/movie. Marvel didn't made even 1 genius movie so It's only fitting to have average actors plaing in them.

Bringing back any of the OGs is the true sign that the MCU is over and out of ideas. 15 years was a good run tbh.

We want Scarlett Witch

That they would eventually scramble and get an old Avenger back was obvious, but I expected it to take longer than 4 years. :rip::rip::rip: They are so over.

I mean with all the time traveling and multiverse stuff going on this was something we all expected to happen sooner or later. I'll be shook if they cast him as the Human Torch though, that would be a gag

I mean, the situation is dire right now but we all knew some if not all OG Avengers would come back one last time for Secret Wars

Lightyear, The Gray Man, Ghosted and Pain Hustlers all flopped. So I mean…

His latest hit was Knives out (maybe Defending Jacob at least critically)

I feel like it’s been planned all along that Secret Wars would bring back old Avengers. However it’s very obvious Marvel is scrambling lol. The Marvels is about to bomb epically. One of their only surefire hit franchises left just wrapped up (Guardians). IDK who is even left that’s an enticing name. Spider Man they gotta split the profits with Sony.

I feel like they need to stop delaying X Men & get them moving to the forefront. They’re starting to get too niche with who they’re giving big movies to & need to start pulling out the big guns again.

One of my main issues with Marvel now is this Multiverse ****. It feels like deaths and actions don’t mean anything anymore. They can just be like “oh here’s a new variant of this character from a different timeline we’re gonna use for this movie”. It was interesting to use once or twice for Avengers but now everything centers around the Multiverse. I miss the linear timelines in one universe.
