Tate McRae - 'THINK LATER'

Starting the album for the first time

cut my hair - Creates a dark atmosphere, very fitting for her introducing her bad girl alter ego. Not instant love, but very good intro, she has my attention, this already feels different from her previous material, would be single material if it was more energetic, it's just... intriguing.

greedy - My 4th most played song of the year, insanely catchy.

run for the hills - I AM ******* SCREAMING, BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITCH END ME, PRODUCTION IS INCREDIBLE, I AM SO HERE FOR THIS SOUND, EMO GIRL VIBES FOR THE WIN ALL THE MFUCKING DAYYYY AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. CAN'T STOP SCREAMINGGGG AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I need this on repeat, TAAAAAAAAAAATE I can't breatheeee

2 ballds is cute but this is alot

Her core fans are teen girls who fell in love with her ballads. Why would she alienate them to appease fickle pop fans? She still got yalls streams and delivered 3-4 upbeat pop gems

hurt my feelings - So boopy and dancey, gives me some early Rihanna vibes, although what was that sudden ending....

grave - Cute midtempo, but she kinda loses me sometimes, like I don't completely connect with it, because I'm still trying to figure out the sound... Idk, there's something missing in terms of emotional delivery that had to do with the production.

stay done - Simple, and perhaps not too memorable, and I really like it. Gives me some 00's Disney ballad vibes ngl.

exes - Back to the heavy uptempo, I don't know if it's well located in the tracklist

Very good album! :clap3:

"run to the hills" and "hurt my feelings" is a good sequence.

"grave", reminds me a little bit of "You Broke Me First" but more sentimental.

"we're not alike" is one of my favorites

It's seems looks like Olivia Rodrigo style, but more dancing, I'll give a 9/10 (like Guts).

The tracklist is such a mess. The whiplash I get when Greedy comes on straight after Cut My Hair :dies: Exes being shoved in the middle of a bunch of slower songs :dies: She could've done with cutting at least 3 songs

I'm keeping the following songs:

Cut My Hair

Greedy

Hurt My Feeling

Exes

We're Not Alike

Think Later

Posted

we're not alike - What a pleasant surprise, I'm liking the diversity on this album, I honestly consider it a highlight.

calgary - My least favorite so far, it's just... okayish/dull.

messier - Production wise it sounds anthemic, the chorus flows so smooth and nicely. The way I want to dance on dancefloor while she sings "messieerr-ierrr-ieerr-ieerr" :katie2:

Cut my hair 8/10 good song but her voice reminds of Camila Cabello on the high notes here :rip:

run for the hills 7/10 good sounds very 2015ish electronic, single worthy

hurt my feelings 6/10 decent

grave 5/10 boring

stay done 8/10 love the guitar sample this could be a single :clap3: def adding to my playlist

exes 7/10 didnt like it at first but its a grower

we're not alike 6/10 dif from the other songs, stands out but still okayish

calgary 5.5/10 decent but boring

messier 7/10 great song very old Tate Mcrae

think later 7/10 great song very hot

guilty conscience 4/10 the way she pronounces guilty conscience sounds weird too me

think later - It's cool, enjoyable, not instant love though.

guilty conscience - Fun Tate is back, super catchy and super effective.

I liked all the album, but yeah, most of ballads didn't click a lot with me, they're ok, but nothing memorable at first listen. It's a transitional album I get it, still it's on repeat. It's a very good pop record, definetely different from her previous effort.

This is a pretty solid album. Run for hills is the standout track.

My personal top 5 besides the singles (no order):

run for the hills

we're not alike

messier

guilty conscience

grave (this one has grown on me a lot) / stay done (hard to choose)

Again, a great pop record overall!
